This is exciting: Drawn and Quarterly is making their WonderCon debut with guests Seth and Vanessa Davis, and the debut of Shigeru Mizuki’s ONWARD TOWARDS OUR NOBLE DEATHS and Pascal Girard’s REUNION:
IMMORTALS is a movie due this winter featuring Henry Cavill, Frieda Pinto, Mickey Rourke and more in a story based on the greek myths of the Titans and directed by Tarsem Singh. Color us curious! To launch the film, Archaia is partnering for the comics tie-in prequel, with a stellar line-up of talent. PR below.
Damn — Google loves April Fool’s jokes as only a bunch of borderline Asperger’s tech nerds can (Moss, see under). For today, they’ve also replaced the dignified and beloved font Helvetica with the Rob Granito of fonts, Comic Sans, when you make a search for “Helvetica.”
It’s incredible what some Disney marketing dollars will do. Marvel has been running a big promo for their Avengers/Thor/Captain America/Iron Man movie franchise gaggle where you try out to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent — they were running it in Chicago at C2E2 but it didn’t get the attention it has here in San Francisco where we were awoken this morning by someone slipping the above promo piece into our room at the convention hotel, the Marriot Marquis.
Voting in the 2011 Inkwell Awards, honoring the best in the art of inking, has just been opened. The nominees are below; the awards will be presented…well, the PR doesn’t really say.
There are some amusing categories below — Klaus Janson needs more attention and Todd McFarlane is small press — but giving the hard working inkers of the world some props is always a good thing.
