201107281629 Alert: Brent Andersons artwork has been stolen

We heard of a couple of car break-ins at Comic-Con, and one of the worst was artist Brent Anderson’s :

“Brent Anderson had a lot of art stolen in San Diego. His car was broken into at the San Diego Zoo and the following original art was stolen: 50 pages from Astro City Vols. 1 & 2 & Local Heroes; AC: Dark Age Books 1 (#s 1-4), 2 (#s 1-4) & 3 (#s 1-4) (50 pages). Green Lantern and Rising Stars artwork was stolen as well. Please share this to as many venues as possible, to get the thief caught and the art returned.”

Needless to say if you are offered any ASTRO CITY art for sale, be suspicious. If we get any more concrete info on what was stolen, we’ll put it up, and please pass along the news.

  1. Al™ says:

Pretty low. Going to Comic-Con to break into cars and steal artwork. Underwhelming.

  2. Jayengeee says:

That’s horrible! Going to one of the most famous and exciting events of the year, then discovering your valuable possessions has been robbed. Hopefully, that culprit is found ASAP and justice can be solved.

  3. Greasemonkey says:

I posted an alert on Warren Ellis’s Whitechapel forum. The thief isn’t going to be able to sell Brent’s stuff anywhere without getting spotted.

  4. Meh, I can always sell to private collectors that don’t mind where goods came from. This won’t stop me.

Mr. Anderson shouldn’t make such a fuss about it. At the end of the day it’s just some lines on paper and not, for example, kidnapping. I gotta make a living, too, you know?

  5. This is the final list of stolen art. Thank you.

    Brent Anderson Stolen Art Update
    October 20, 2011

    To Whom It May Concern,

I need my friends’ help. My car was broken into at the San Diego
Zoo on Monday July 25th, 2011. Approximately 200 pages of my original comic book
    art was stolen (pages from “Astro City” (Volumes 1 & 2), “Astro City:Local Heroes,” “Astro City:The Dark Age” Book 1 (#s 1-4), Book 2 (#s 1-4) & Book 3 (#s 1-4) And “Rising Stars” #s 15-24.)

The art was in three black 24-page 14”x17” Itoya display portfolios (called
Art Profolios) labeled “Astro City”, “Astro City: The Dark Age”, and “Rising
Stars,” and one black Filexec display book labeled “Green Lantern: Legacy,”
all in mylar sleeves. Each book holds 48 art pages. The stolen portfolios
can be identified by title and hand-written labels along the outside spine.
All four of the portfolios were in a black soft cloth slipcover carrying
case, zippered along the side about three inches from the top. Each page is
labeled at the top with my name, the book’s title, issue # and page number
    and a pricing sticker.
Note: On earlier pages, the top line info is not as clearly marked as in more recent pages. A number of them are marked in light faded pencil.
A $500.00 reward has been offered for the safe return of the artwork no questions asked.
