The return of indie stalwart Alternative Comics was announced a while ago, and publisher Marc Arsenault has just released info on their 2013 slate with books by Karl Stevens, Sam Henderson, Elaine M. Will, James Kochalka, Kevin Scalzo and more. They’ll be fully represented at Stumptown, TCAF, Cake and SPX. If this cover gallery does not get you excited, then there is nothing I can do for you.

Debuting in May is Karl Stevens’ Failure, the follow-up to his 2011 book The Lodger—a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist. Stevens will be at Stumptown and TCAF with the book.

The popular anthology Alternative Comics # is back with issue 4. Cover art by Mike Bertino (Trigger). Comics by Theo Ellsworth (The Understanding Monster) & Craig Thompson (Blankets, Habibi), Sam Alden (Eighth Grade), James Kochalka (SuperF*ckers), Sam Henderson (Magic Whistle), Noah Van Sciver (The Hypo), Grant Snider (Incidental Comics), Alex Schubert (Blobby Boys), Andy Ristaino (Adventure Time), and Allison Cole (Never Ending Summer). The popular Inkstuds podcast launches a regular feature in the magazine with an interview with and comics by David Lasky. Alternative Comics #4 will debut at the Toronto Comics Arts Festival.

Sam Henderson has two: MagicWhistle Volume 2, number 13,m with guests Lizz Hickey and David Goldin, and the complete collection of “Scene But Not Heard “ from Nickelodeon Magazine. The latter is co-published by Top Shelf. Henderson will be appearing at the Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda Maryland, and other events to promote the books.

Look Straight Ahead by Elaine M. Will is one of the last of the Xeric winning books, from May 2012. According to Gail Simone, “Look Straight Ahead is the comic I didn’t know I couldn’t live without”. It goes on sale in October, following a TCAF debut.

James Kochalka’s complete Fancy Froglin comes out in November, strips—the lovable story of a very dirty little frog who only sometimes wears pants.
