Yet ANOTHER creator owned digital anthology project, this one spearheaded by artist David Lloyd (V for Vendetta). Details of Aces Weekly have now been revealed. The impressive list of contributors includes:
David Lloyd, Kyle Baker, Mark Wheatley, JC Vaughn, John McCrea, Phil Hester, David Hitchcock, Steve Bissette, Dan Christensen, Yishan Li, Algesiras, Alain Mauricet, Alexandre Tefenkgi, Billy Tucci, Mindy McPeak, Kathryn Layno, Kev Hopgood, Ferg Handley, Lew Stringer, David Leach, Carl Critchlow, Colleen Doran, Shaky Kane, Dave Hine, Hunt Emerson, Dylan Teague, Marc Hempel, Paul Maybury, Phil Elliott, Esteban Hernandez, Mychailo Kazybrid, Ben Dickson, Gavin Mitchell, Henry Flint and more. The website has yet to go live, but editor Bambos Georgiou has been talking:

“Most comic companies use creators to make money for the company, this company has been set up to make money for the creators,” he adds. “The whole project has been funded by David Lloyd, who has commissioned the web site. This time readers will know their money is going direct to the creators.”

Each weekly issue will contain 18 pages, comprising at least three landscape pages from six contributors. Seven issues will makes up a “volume” (that’s 21 pages, or a regular comic book issue, for those counting.) A subscription consists of a “volume” for £6.99/$10 — so basically about the cost of a trade paperback of original material. Given the pedigree of creators, not too bad.

Aces Weekly joins Thrillbent, Madefire, Monkeybrain, Artist Alley and several other recently launched original creator owned digital anthologies or comics imprints.

We’d call that a trend.
