Dandelion Seeds: The Return of Halloween Comics!

beat-default

Tweet___________________________________________________________________________ A few months ago, I brainstormed about how Halloween mini-comics being offered by Diamond could be used in a variety of ways to promote comics and have some fun!   (Read that again… there are event suggestions and a timeline there, which I’ve paralleled below, but did not exactly duplicate.) During C2E2, Diamond announced that […]

Archaia Announcements: Space: 1999 Goes Digital Before Print and a Cyborg 009 Remake

beat-default

Archaia is another company that’s throwing its hat in the growing category of “digital release, then print.” Certainly, digital comics are an increasingly common thing, but the relationship between digital and print is still evolving. They’re taking a direction with a couple titles that I think will end up being fairly common. They’re also adapting/remaking a classic manga title.

New comics! Fun stuff for everyone! (And, of course, before you hand the book over to a young impressionable mind, you have to read it first to make sure it is age-appropriate!)

Nice art: Afu Chan draws brawls like no one's business

beat-default

Who the heck is Afu Chan? He drew a story in SPERA, the fantasy anthology by Josh Tierney that also sports art by Kyla Vanderklugt, Hwei, and Emily Carroll, and was published by Archaia. But a glance at his Deviant Art page reveals an illustrator very much in the modern, pan-comics Moebius-inspired vein, but with violent, pastel brawls breaking out all over the place.

Coming Attractions: Fall 2011: Archaia

Great Women comics from Gail Simone, Colleen Coover, Megan Kelso, Jill Thompson, and Corinne Mucha! (Can’t find female creators on the newsstands? Check the bookshelves!) Archaia switches to PGW, publishes APES

beat-default

Archaia is making some moves, both with a new distributor — PGW — and its first illustrated novel, strong>Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes.

Buried in a PR on the Ape book is the news that Archaia is leaving Diamond for PGW, which already distributes Cartoon Books. PGW distributes over 100 independent publishers, so picking up a few GN publishers makes sense. And Archaia’s new books-only plan is also a good bit for a books-only distributor.

Coming Attractions: April 2011

Wow! Lots of great books coming out this month!

Archaia announces The Storyteller, Immortals, new publisher

beat-default

Archaia is having a busy WonderCon, with a bunch of announcements. Yesterday’s big story was a GN based on IMMORTALS, an upcoming mythology inspired movie, and today’s is an anthology based on The Storyteller, another Jim Henson project from the past — this one is a little obscure but fondly remembered by many — basically an old dude would sit there with a dog and tell…stories. Seems ripe for an anthology.

Archaia partners with Relativity for IMMORTALS GN

IMMORTALS is a movie due this winter featuring Henry Cavill, Frieda Pinto, Mickey Rourke and more in a story based on the greek myths of the Titans and directed by Tarsem Singh. Color us curious! To launch the film, Archaia is partnering for the comics tie-in prequel, with a stellar line-up of talent. PR below.
