In July, the 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special returns for its 2024 edition: Stories from a Sideways Universe! The 48-page amalgam issue will feature mash-ups of popular 2000 AD characters, like Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog (Judge Alpha), and The Beat can reveal a sneak peek at one of the included short stories, “Stickleback: Secret Histories.”

Created by writer Ian Edginton, Stickleback is a Cockney geezer living in steampunk, Victorian-era London. However, in “Secret Histories,” he joins Edginton’s other series The Red Seas as a pirate captain on the hunt for mysterious treasure alongside first mate Ampney Crucis and other familiar characters. In addition to Edginton’s script, the story is penciled by Paul McCaffrey and lettered by Annie Parkhouse.
