Or so says this post at the Dixonverse Message Board:

I am no longer employed by DC Comics in any capacity.

Dixon was currently writing Batman and the Outsiders and Robin.

UPDATE: Kevin Melrose reminds us that Dixon had abruptly replaced Tony Bedard as writer of BATMAN & THE OUTSIDERS before the book came out, and has just as abruptly been replaced by Frank Tieri as writer.

  1. Thank god. After all the awesome character work Wolfman & Perez did for Nightwing, Dixon has forever drawn my ire for mediocresizing Grayson in his run on the Nightwing series.

  2. What’s up with the haters?

This sucks. Robin hasn’t been this good since Chuck wrote the title the first time. Any word on his next project?

  3. I really think Dixon did a great job bringing back Spoiler with the corner that she was written into, and ROBIN is once again one of DC’s best hero titles. I’m guessing this has to do with the batman RIP storyline–those crossovers are slowly killing creativity at DC.

  4. It’s too bad…I was enjoying his work on BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS and he certainly was a huge improvement over Judd “Every character has the same personality and speech pattern” Winick.

Here’s hoping Rich Johnston has a decent-sized article on what went down between Dixon and DC in Monday’s LITG column.

  5. Chuck Dixon has always been a fan favorite and a name associated with quality writing.

Dixon has been given a book wounded by subpair writing, which had chased off many fans already turned off by other events occurring in DC (Countdown, Son of Countdown, Countdown on a Stick, Infinite Countdown, Countdown Again, etc., vomit, etc).

  6. That’s not entirely true, Kevin. BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS was originally solicited as being written by Tony Bedard, and in fact Bedard both wrote some of the lead-up FIVE OF A KIND mini-series for it, as well as THE OUTSIDERS #50 that was the final push towards the new team.

Then Bedard was fired after #1-2 of the new series were already solicited, and Dixon was announced as the new writer. So while Dixon’s first issue was #1, it’s a little unfair to say that he’s been on since the relaunch, since that was really happening with FIVE OF A KIND and OUTSIDERS #50.

(Although that said, I think Allen was talking about ROBIN.)

  7. Yeah, this totally blows. Robin and Batman and the Outsiders were actually entertaining. It’s painfully obvious that the Ego monster that is Grant Morrsion is begining to alienate other writers.

Countdown to final Crisis was deprived of it’s 0 issue because where Grant took the first issue had nothing to do with Countdown. It was bad enough that Dan Didio had to fly out to Scotland to find ot what the hell was going on.

With this Batman R.I.P. it’s obvisous Grant changed course or decided to “Change” things so drastically that it affects the other Bat-books.

As a reader, I dropped Batman because of grants writing. I was enjoying Dini’s run on Detective and Robin, Nightwing. Why? They had little or nothing to do with Grants “ultimate batman” story. And when Dixion picked up Outsiders…it was great.

I’m not picking up any of the Batman R.I.P anytime soon. In fact, I may drop those issues until the story is over. And now DC lost a solid and entertaining writer.

  8. To quote a certain comic book guy, “There is no emoticon for what I am feeling.”

Is DC trying to get me to quit them? Dammit. I was very happy to hear Chuck back in the Bat-office. He fixed the horrible mess DC did with Spoiler. Cass was back in Outsiders. I was certainly hoping he’d be back for the long run. This greatly sucks. I think I might want to drop some books if he’s gone, not matter who they replace him with. Well, if I can. Dammit, DC, I wish I knew how to quit you.

Lukecash, as for Countdown and DC 0, according to Newsarama’s interview with Morrison, Final Crisis was set up before Countdown. That was the priority. Countdown was actually made up after Final Crisis. He’d been given the green light by DC and had turned in the first issue and basic outline before Countdown even started. So I blame more the DC offices than Morrison for Countdown incongruities and problems. Maybe Grant does have an ego, but DC’s been feeding it by telling him he has all this power, then taking it away resulting in problems. It’s not fair to him either.

  9. I think what Lukecash is referring to are earlier reports that when Morrison turned in the final script for Final Crisis 1, it was vastly different from what he had told editorial it would be and from what editorial had originally approved. As a result, a contingent from DC editorial went to Scotland to discuss what could be done, and the result was what eventually became DC Universe 0.

  10. It’s not continuity worship.

After the insanity at DC (Super Infinite Ultimate Mary Sue Crisis, etc.), I had sworn to never again buy a DC comic until the current regime was out. The complete lack of any respect for the people who buy their product, the sub-sub-sub-par writing, and the egomaniacal attitudes (I still remember the editorial where DiDio praised Julie Schwartz for creating the DC Multiverse — then said that [under him] “it’ll be done right.”)

Since that time, I’ve _almost_ kept that promise. I’ve continued to buy All-Star Superman. I purchased the Teen Titans issue of remembering Bart Allen (who apparently was just another log on the DC Funeral Pyre), simply because of Todd Nauck drawing the “Young Justice” flashbacks.

And I bought the Chuck Dixon issue of Robin where Spoiler truly comes back.

It wasn’t the best return, but it was the best that anyone could do considering the antipathy for the character the Powers that Be seem to have had.

(And if anyone tells me that they had planned this for Stephanie since “War Games”, I will call them a liar to their face.)

Thanks, DC. You’re helping me save money once again.

  11. That sucks. I liked Dixon’s work at DC. And since I really can’t stand Tieri’s writing, I guess there goes Bats & Outsiders… I wonder who they’ll get to write Robin?

  12. As far as I know, Frank Tieri is only on for two issues of BATO until an announcement of Dixon’s replacement is made.

  13. “Grant Morrsion is begining to alienate other writers.

Countdown to final Crisis was deprived of it’s 0 issue because where Grant took the first issue had nothing to do with Countdown. It was bad enough that Dan Didio had to fly out to Scotland to find ot what the hell was going on.

With this Batman R.I.P. it’s obvisous Grant changed course or decided to “Change” things so drastically that it affects the other Bat-books”

Messing with Dan Didio and Chuck Dixon seems an eminently salutary way to spend one’s time.

  14. I will certainly miss him. I was overjoyed to finally see him getting back on some DC titles again after leaving for CrossGen. I was still holding out hope he would get Birds of Prey and Nightwing back as well.

  15. Am I the only one who thinks that “Batman and the Outsiders” has been a complete waste thus far? Dixon was almost 10 issues into the run and nothing of real significance had occurred. It was a waste of $3 a month, and hopefully DC can rectify the situation by actually having Batman contribute a little bit more (y’know, Batman sitting in a control room isn’t my idea of cool).

I didn’t mind Dixon’s run on Robin, but his run on “BATO” was inexcusably poor. So long, and good luck Mr. Dixon.
