The following are new titles from DC, scheduled for the first four months of 2013.
It’s dominated by New 52 titles, as DC releases the first volumes in paperback while releasing hardcovers of the second volumes.
There are some interesting archival collections, in a variety of formats. DC has one Absolute Edition for after the holidays (unless you count Easter as a gift-giving holiday), a few hardcover archives, omnibuses, Showcase paperbacks, deluxe editions, and the ever-popular trade paperback.
As always, the following is subject to change. Quotes are from the DC solicitations. My comments are in italics. What did I find interesting? Look for the covers. If you want to purchase the titles, you can shop online, or ask your friendly neighborhood purveyor of comics.

Man, I’d love to see some nice reprints of Tomahawk, Sea Devils and Rip Hunter- not Showcases but full color editions.
I agree Ed. I’d also love to see a HC collection of the Joker series from the ’70’s.
Wow Marshall Law no kidding it’s been a while. I can’t remember that much unrepentant violence since I read my last Garth Ennis comic. Hey wait a minute isn’t this the same plot for The Boys……
Wonder if that Archie Goodwin Batman book is a stealth Manhunter reprint?
Also still kind of surprised that DC is not putting out the two Super Powers mini-series that Jack Kirby worked on as the final Fourth World Omnibus.
@Jesse The Boys has proven to be far more complicated and inspired than even Ennis might have foreseen.
“60. Legion Worlds”
Just to be clear, DC–you cancel the Legion Lost (softcover), but still claim to plan to put out its follow-up?
No SCALPED hardcover? C’mon DC!
Johnny Memeonic – it looks like they are including the 2 Super Powers minis, so that’s good. However, I do find it odd that they’re including all six issue of Sandman. Correct me if I’m wrong (Lord knows I usually am…), but didn’t Ernie Chan/Chua draw some of those issues?
Oh, in that “Crisis on Multiple Earths” trade, shouldn’t that be THE ULTRA-HUMANITE and the SSoV, not Gorila Grodd? Do all gorillas really look alike? Species-ism, I say!!!
Oh man, I think I’m going to buy Top Ten again.
Adventures of Superman: Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez – DROOL!
I’m kinda stunned that they’re staying “all in” on all 52 TP collections.

Look at those Canadian prices! Talk about getting hosed! Good thing most shops charge American prices.
Does that SHADE tpb collect the entire mini-series or just half?
The Shade is 280 pages. Divide by twelve… 23 1/3 pages per issue. Sounds about right.
If it were just the first six issues, DC would have released it earlier.
Seven cents a page… rather cheap for a color paperback.

Kirby did all of the covers and four of the interiors for Sandman. I believe it is a story arc, so it makes sense to include the other issues.
I’m with you about the Shade tpb. I was hoping for a nice (and matching) volume to go with my Starman Omnibi! Do you think it could be coming out in paperback due to the low sales of the individual issues?
ah ok, thanks Torsten.
Jonathan, I’m surprised they are even collecting the SHADE mini, much less in paperback, the sales were awful…
I’m wondering where the extra 150 pages in the new Alan Moore DCU book comes from. The previous paperback was only around 300 pages.
@Ron; yes, I see that even though the Canadian and US dollar are within a few pennies of each other, there is a 30% profit margin being tacked on to the Canadian cover prices. Unreal but predictable.
Attention Mr Publisher: please do not gripe about poor sales in Canada.
@Richard really just never thought of the two together it’s been a long time some similiar themes. I love Ennis and it was not a dig.
‘Tales of the Batman: Archie Goodwin’: paperback?? Geez, way to ruin the great hardback shelf I had going…still, I’ll gladly settle for that Garcia-Lopez collection instead;)
And yeah, I’m surprised to see Kirby’s ‘Super Powers’ didn’t get its own collection, if they bothered to do Omac separately…
Say, Torsten …
I noticed that the page count on the 20th anniversary edition of The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus is 1008 … 224 pages higher than the count of the previous edition. Are you sure it still omits stories from World Without a Superman?
(Nobody tells writers anything.)
Wow! Roger Stern! I remember meeting you at Omacon, back when you were writing Spider-Man! You were the first pro I met (and I was rather shy). I did coach my journalist brother what questions to ask in his interview, and you complimented him on that.
Anyway… here’s the solicit info:
“The historic story of the death and return of Superman is collected in one massive hardcover volume featuring an all-new cover by pivotal creator Dan Jurgens, timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the event! The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus includes the best-selling trade paperbacks The Death of Superman and The Return of Superman, as well as portions of World Without Superman, plus 40 pages of bonus extras including promotional material and product spotlight.”

According to WorldCat, the previous edition reprinted:
SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #17-26, SUPERMAN #73-82, THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #496-505, ACTION COMICS #683-684, 687-691, GREEN LANTERN #46 and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #69.
This new edition collects:
Collects SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #17-26, SUPERMAN #73-82, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #496-505, ACTION COMICS #683-691, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #69, SUPERMAN: THE LEGACY OF SUPERMAN #1 and GREEN LANTERN #46.
So two more issues of Action, and “Superman: The Legacy of Superman”.

Death of Superman trade = 168 pages
World Without a Superman = 237 pages
Return of Superman = 479 pagees
Totals 884 pages.

All I remember is that there was a lot of the Supergirl/Lex Luthor storyline cut from the first omnibus.
From the sound of things, just about all of World Without a Superman should be included in the new edition.
Certainly, with the inclusion of ACTION COMICS #685-686, all of those Supergirl/Lex Luthor stories should be covered. (Save for the story from the SUPERGIRL/TEAM LUTHOR special.)
It is a shame, though. that ACTION COMICS #692 isn’t gong to be included.* And I’m not just saying that because I wrote it — with a welcome co-plotting hand from the ever-talented Karl Kesel. If you read the entirety of ACTION #692, you (and Superman and Lois) learn the full story from Doctor Occult about how and why Superman was able to cheat death, and how that process wouldn’t work a second time.
*(Only the brief excerpt from ACTION #692 that was part of the Return of Superman collection was used in the earlier Omnibus edition.)
Oh, well …
And thanks again for the legwork, Torsten! I wasn’t kidding — much — when I said that nobody tells writers anything. The way I usually find out that my stories are being reprinted is to read about them in the publishers’ solicitations.
Amongst an awful lot of chaff there’s some pretty neat wheat there. Most of it pre-90s!
