201010042008 Cox joins CBLDF as Development ManagerAnd our second press release about a comics retailer getting another job in as many minutes, Alex Cox, formerly of the much-missed comics shop Rocketship in Brooklyn, has joined the CBLDF as Development Manager. Just to tie up all the loose ends, Shy Allott, who formerly held the position, has joined Dr. Sketchy’s as Sponsorship Coordinator. Congrats to everyone who is now employed!

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is excited to announce the addition of Alex Cox to the New York office staff, in the position of Development Manager. Alex comes to the organization with fifteen years experience working as a comics retailer in New York City, including opening and managing his own store, ROCKETSHIP.

A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Alex worked in a variety of fields before landing at the CBLDF, including freelance illustration and building props for several television shows. He has written about comics and interviewed creators as an infrequent contributor at Comic Book Resources, and as an amateur cartoonist, Alex has created dozens of self-published mini-comics. Along with business partner Mary Gibbons, he opened ROCKETSHIP in 2005, and in the five years of operation it was named “Best of New York” by the Village Voice and New York Magazine, and was a finalist for the Will Eisner Spirit of Retailing Award.

Alex is a longtime supporter of the CBLDF, and comes to the Fund with a passion for Free Speech issues, an encyclopedic knowledge of comics, and a deep love for the art form. As Development Manager, Alex will oversee the organization’s development activities, including fundraising at conventions, online, and at events throughout the United States.  He will also coordinate volunteers for events and conventions, and for assistance in the New York office. Inquiries about volunteering with the CBLDF should be directed to alex.cox@cbldf.org, as well as questions about membership, donations, and creator involvement with the Fund.
