CBR and io9 get the reveal on the first 10 miniseries. As explaiend by CBR, we’ll see now retconned to oblivion characters like “Stephanie Brown as Batgirl, Cassandra Cain, Donna Troy, Wally West (married to Linda Park with kids), Jesse Quick, Barbara Gordon as Oracle, Dick Grayson as Nightwing and Renee Montoya as The Question. ” There’s also something called “The Dome”—a terrifying structure which forces inhabitants to watch the slow-paced CBS series of the same name reminds you of Battleworld.

While the original intent of this event was to “cast the net wide” these first minis feature such up and comers as Denys Cowan, Klaus Janson and Gail Simone. Just kidding. On a more serious note, it is good to see some of these folks working at DC again. Phil Winslade on Harley Quinn? Tell me more!

Final snark: these all sound completely totally new reader friendly.

  1. I was ready to ignore each and every one of the “Convergence” wastes of paper. But Rucka/Hamner doing a ReneeQuestion/Two-Face story??? HOLY COW!!! Gail doing a Nightwing/Oracle story??? OH MAN! I guess that’ll teach me to pre-judge an event.

Can’t say I’m looking forward to all the crossovers with Flashpoint characters, but I can put up with that for comics starring characters I love made by appropriate creators.

  2. So DC Comics is willing to allow its characters to progress in their lives (marriage, pregnancy, children, etcetera), but only after the continuity they exist in has been abandoned for something new. It’s basically a two month exercise in “This is what our comics would look like if they weren’t being published solely to maintain the trademarks,” before going back to their usual garbage.

That said, I’ll be taking full advantage of Greg Rucka writing Renee again while I have the chance.

  3. Preach it, Rob and Nick! I thought I had bought my last DC comic, ever. But I’m interested in most of these. The Nu52 is a dry, arid and loveless place. Give me comics and characters with personality (and underpants over their pants), and I’ll buy them!
