Kicking off a year-long series of events celebrating Peanuts’ 60th Anniversary in 2010, Peanuts announces the launch of its first-ever PEANUTS 60th Anniversary Photo Look-A-Like Contest (www.peanutsphotocontest.com), which will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.bgca.org).
Moms and dads across the country are invited to submit photos of their children looking like one of these Peanuts characters: Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schroeder, Franklin, Peppermint Patty, Marcie or Pigpen, or one of Snoopy’s classic alter-egos, Joe Cool or the World War I Flying Ace. Submissions will be accepted through November 3.
Finalists, selected by a panel of celebrity judges, will be posted on November 11. The public will then be able to vote for their favorite finalist through November 30. The winners will be announced in December.
Celebrities have already kicked this off with some suggestions which you can see in the jump. Can we just say that Michael Cera/Linus really works for us?
I was going to be snarky about looking for Woodstock and Snoopy look-alikes, but instead, I’ll say that I just don’t see the point. Thinking that your child is a young comedian, flighty, or whimsical doesn’t really provide a basis for sending in a picture.

Sigh. I really miss Peanuts as an ongoing concern. (But certainly wouldn’t want someone else continuing it.)

oh boy! as if being a kid isn’t tough enough, now they have to be (wrongly or rightly) outted by their parents/relatives before they even get to be known simply as a kid!
Peppermint Patty was never gay in the strip. Being gay is only an interpretation of people wanting to see something that wasn’t there.
And the comment by michael is here simply to stir up shite. michael should be better than that.
Considering her age, one wouldn’t expect her to be openly heterosexual either. There’s considerable interest online in the topic. The question has come up repeatedly on Yahoo! Answers, for instance. One factor was Patty’s relationship with Marcie; another was her somewhat masculine-sounding voice in the cartoons. One DVD collection lists her as being voiced by Christopher DeFaria in some, but other cartoons had her voiced by Gail DeFaria who, oddly enough, also voiced Pigpen and Shermy.
The question will come up as long as the cartoons are viewed.
