Escape Pod Comics in Huntington Long Island is closed on Sturday6s, so you’ll get a second bite at the FCBD apple on Sunday at their store. And the first 10 people to buy a copy of this print by Riley Schmitz get a bonus drawing.

DETAILS:

Free Comic book day, the national event in which Comic Shops give out free books created by dozens of comic book companies, is this weekend! All over the country, this Saturday, people can pick up free books featuring Archie, Batman, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Steven Universe, Spider-Man, and more!

But at Escape Pod Comics in Huntington, NY (302 Main Street, Huntington Village) Free Comic Book day is SUNDAY, MAY 4TH!  We’ll have all the giveaway books, a storewide sale, cosplayers, and special guests doing signings! All customers are entitled to 5 free books, while those in costume get two extra for a total of seven! Items in the shop will be on sale ranging from 10-50% off, including our huge catalogue of back issues, new issues and trade paperbacks.

A regular destination for Cosplayers, Escape Pod Comics has a monthly day where people from all over the island come out and show off their best costumes. In honor of Free Comic Book Day, they have all promised to turn out, so expect to see Magical Girls, Super-Heroes, Cartoon characters and more when you show up!

From 1-5 pm, comic creator Jimmy Gownley of the hit young adult series Amelia Rules! And the new Scholastic Books The Dumbest Idea Ever will be here, signing the Free offering from Scholastic, a chapter from his new book. The book chronicles Jimmy’s teenage years, a time when he SELF-PUBLISHED his own comic, Shades of Grey.

Following that, from 6-9pm Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder will be signing and selling copies of their hit Image Comics book Rocket Girl, as well as giving away promotional posters. Montclare and Reeder have worked together for years, starting with his editing her artwork for DC comics on the Madame Xanadu comic. Rocket Girl, which tell the story of a teenage rocket-pack wearing police officer displaced in time, got its start as a Kickstarter project (much like their Halloween Eve one-shot comic of last year.)

Escape Pod Comics is located on Main Street in Huntington, three doors down from Ben & Jerry’s and right across the street from the Huntington Play N’ Trade. On May 4th, the stores hours will be 11am-9pm
