While for some thoughts are turning to Thought Bubble in Leeds or the Miami Book Fair, ou on the west coast, it’s the fifht anniversary edition of the Long Beach Horror & Comic Con. It’s set in the scenic environs of the Long Beach Convention Center, which is one of my favorite con spots on the west coast. Long Beach puts the emphasis on comics, and has a strong guest list which you can read below. (You may recall that one of the show organizers, Mike Scigliano, gave us a behind the scenes on the making of the show last year.) Publishers include Aspen Comics, IDW, Top Cow, Boom! Studios, Hero Initiative, and Skybound. You can see all the programming here. The organizers sent along some pics from last year to get things going. It sounds like a fun show…send me any con reports you have!

Guests:

Tim Bradstreet (Punisher, Hellblazer)
Brian Buccellato (Flash, Detective Comics)
Amanda Conner (Harley Quinn, Before Watchmen)
Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
Gene Ha (Action Comics, Justice League)
Scott Lobdell (Teen Titans)
Amy Mebberson (My Little Pony)
Jimmy Palmiotti (All Star Western, Batwing)
Whilce Portacio (Wetworks, Incredible Hulk)
Norm Rapmund (Teen Titans)
Darick Robertson (Happy, Transmetropolitan)
Marc Silvestri (Cyber Force)
Mark Waid (Daredevil, Shadow Walk)
Len Wein (Before Watchmen, Swamp Thing)
Marv Wolfman (New Teen Titans)
Plus tons more industry talent

  1. This is such a down-to-earth convention but just as fun as the biggest con. Lots to do and see. (Like our Ultraverse 20th panel Sunday). If you haven’t gone, it is a TON of fun!

  2. I enjoyed this show more than I expected. Might be my favorite show. No pushing and shoving as at the others nearby. I took my Mom, she’s 65 and she had a great time. The guy at Aspen talked with her about mystery novels, then she met a new girl there who wrote her own book, bought her first comic. Looking forward to going yearly to this one. Oh, and there was almost no wait at the 25+ restaurants within a 5 minute walk.
