Roger Langridge – my personal choice for the next Batman – will see his run on ‘The Muppets’ collected into a Marvel omnibus next year. Originally published by Boom Studios whilst they had the rights to Disney properties, this omnibus will collect four series-worth of material in hardback. Life’s a fillet of fish!

MUPPETS

My personal choice for the next Superman Brian Truitt has the news on USA Today.

Estimated for release in April 2014, The Muppets Omnibus will collect together The Muppet ShowThe Muppet Show Comic Book: The Treasure of Peg-Leg WilsonThe Muppet Show Comic Book and The Muppets. All series are both written and drawn by Langridge, and are roughly 700X more interesting than anything to do with Batman.

One thing this suggests to me is that perhaps if Marvel have the rights to reprint the Boom comics, does that mean they might also be able to get their hands on other properties such as Darkwing Duck? Complete speculation on my part, and something I’ll look into in more detail.

Collecting the stories in hardcover, expect more on this as we race into 2014.

  1. Marvel definitely has the rights to Disney Afternoon stuff… both in terms of reprinting the Boom comics and publishing new material if they so desire. Darkwing artist James Silvani seems to have been hinting that something is in the works….

  2. I read a few issues of this back when Boom published it. If you like the Muppets, it is a lot of fun.

  3. Egmont, the European Disney publisher is coming out with two omnibus (or is that omnibi?) of the Darkwing Duck material. The first will be issues 1-12 and the second will have issues 13-18 as well as the Duck Tales comics. Editor Aaron Sparrow and I have contributed some new supplements to the first collection. I’m not sure when we can expect it here in the states.

  4. Yes, but are they going to buy the rights for the issues that Langridge complete for Boom but were never published? It would be a shame for those to never be seen.

  5. Nat, the “Muppets” comic listed last IS the four-issue series that Boom couldn’t publish. Marvel put it out last year in single issues and TPB. (If there’s any more unpublished Langridge Muppet stuff, I’d love to see it included too!) I love this news, I’ll buy the omnibus if I can afford it, and I hope that maybe just maybe they’ll do the same for Don Rosa’s work down the road.
