Internet sweetheart Megan Fox proves she has no fear of the nerd demo, as she has TWO comic book projects on the horizon. First, she’s slated to join Josh Brolin and John Malkovich in the JONAH HEX movie as a “gun wielding beauty” and romantic interest. . She’s also attached to a FATHOM movie in the works at Fox Atomic. The late Michael Turner’s signature character, the underwater lass has had a lengthy development history:
The project was at one point set up at James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment. When the option lapsed, producer Peter Safran scooped it up and began packaging it, eventually attracting Fox, a fan of the comic since its 1998 debut, when it became the top-selling comic of the year. Fox had been seeking Turner to investigate “Fathom’s” rights availability.
Fox is now helping develop and shape the adaptation, which is being written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of video game “Prince of Persia.” …
Turner will be credited as exec producer. Frank Mastromauro also is exec producing. Zak Kadison and Eric Lieb at Atomic will oversee.
Fox is one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood, perhaps due to the fact that she has no problem getting her kit off for photos in men’s mags, as we discovered when we tried to find a picture of her to accompany this item. That lack of shyness should serve her well for underwater adventures!
Really? FATHOM was the best-selling comic of 1998? Was the comics industry really that depressed at that point? Were the non-Diamond sales tremendous at SEA WORLD or something?
Augie, don’t you remember the stunt Michael Turner pulled, where the three variant covers of the first issue had three variant INTERIORS, as well? Each issue had like 3 pages that weren’t in the other issues (the same scene from different characters’ perspectives, if memory serves, so it was different script AND art but not a ton of new information) to basically force people to buy all 3 covers to get the whole thing. And hey, it worked on me!
I don’t know that anything Fox did in Transformers has me convinced that she could carry a movie, but I’d love for there to be a successful Fathom movie. It’d be nice to stick it to all those movie execs who insist people won’t go see an action movie with a female star.
I think the proper pairing is “get her kit off” and “lad mags.”
Augie, Fathom #1 sold around 257,100 units through Diamond. The next highest selling item on the Diamond lists was Witchblade/Tomb Raider #1 with around 190,700 units. Of course, this is pre-order data and not final sales, but calling Fathom the top selling comic of the year isn’t unreasonable given the available data.
Never one to shy away from controversy, I will go on record: Megan Fox is pretty.

oddly, I don’t really care about those comic book properties, but I do hope some success for the movies of the same name.
