The occasion of ASTONISHING X-MEN’s same-sex wedding has also seen several parties and receptions at various comics shops across the nation, including Zeus Comics, which held a bachelor party last week. But Midtown Comics is going all the way by hosting two actual same-sex weddings this Wednesday, with a reception taking place at the Eventi Hotel. Two couples—Scott Everhart and Jason Welker, and Khris Wilson and Chris Orme—will be tying the knot. Both events are private but people are being encouraged to take photos outside, as the shop will be opening late due to the nuptials.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in New York since last year. And if all this proves one thing, it’s that same-sex weddings can be just as nerdy as any other.

Midtown Comics in New York City is proud to announce the wedding of Scott Everhart and Jason Welker, and Khris Wilson and Chris Orme in celebration of the historic wedding of X-Men characters Northstar and Kyle, unfolding in Astonishing X-Men #51,from Marvel Comics, available today.  Midtown Comics will hold this wedding event on Wednesday, June 20th at 9:00AM at their Downtown location. Hotel accommodations for the couples will be provided by Eventi A Kimpton Hotel, where a private reception will take place after the ceremony.

The wedding is not open to the general public, but fans are welcome to share the excitement outside the store for photo ops.  Midtown Comics’ Downtown store opening will be delayed until 10:30AM due to the wedding.

"We are geeks in love, and what better way to tie the knot than in a comic shop!” said groom Scott Everhart.  Khris Wilson, another groom, had this to say: “The idea of having a ceremony with some of my fictional icons in the same room as me is pretty cool.” “We’re honored to take part in this event today, and to help promote equality and tolerance, in the spirit of the X-Men themselves", said Gerry Gladston, co-owner of Midtown Comics.

“Eventi and Kimpton are honored to be proud partners alongside Marvel and Midtown Comics of this important milestone for both couples and show their support as a leading LGBT community member in the US” said Shannon Spillett, city director of marketing, Kimpton Hotels NYC.

Matt Lotr will be the officiant, and Andrew Altenburg of 14Stories.com is the wedding planner, and will present a cake provided by Empire Cakes. Marvel Comics and wedding-themed music will be provided by Brian Barrentine and Funikijam

  1. Same sex marriage is legal in Canada since early 2005….no one makes a big case of it here. Strange that so much media attention on this in the US…..society has now accepted this concept and we can clearly see this on TV and other media….oh well. whatever sells for the Big2. I wonder how long before this adopts a child, hey Marvel, another idea on how to sell an additional 50,000 copies in a few months time.

  2. The reason it gets so much attention in the US still is A) we lost the “forward towards the future” role a zillion years ago, and enjoy living in cro-magnon ways until we’re SO far behind the curve of the world, we decide “eh, I guess it’s time to inch forward now”

    and

    B) it still IS a big case in the US, and society HASN’T exactly “accepted” the concept in full as of yet. I think one must be gay in order to fully understand this, though. (Not knowing if you are or not, I am, obviously.)

  3. Thanks so much for mentioning the Zeus bachelor event last week! We also participated in Wednesday’s Astonishing X-Men 51 release with an in-store reception.

During the champagne toast for Northstar and Kyle, a dear friend proposed to his boyfriend!
We were in on the surprise and luckily he said yes! ; )
