This is not comics, but it’s so close. Taschen Books, publisher of many fine art books–some comics related–and many art reference basics, is having a warehouse sale this weekend at all its stores worldwide. 1000 Pin-Up Girls, 1000 Chairs…the International Male retrospective…there is something for all our needs.

Beginning Friday, January 22nd through Sunday the 24th, thousands of slightly damaged and display books from Taschen publishing will be on sale for 50-75% off in our TASCHEN store in Soho. These will include new, rare, out-of-print, and collector’s edition titles crossing all genres— contemporary art, photography, design, comics ,architecture, pop culture, and erotica.

  1. Torsten Adair says:

Benedikt Taschen is a comics fan of sorts. They just published a massive tome of Tom of Finland, they have published Stanton and McKay, and if memory serves, even collected a raunchy sex humor mag. Their Elvgren book is amazing…

The Icon series is budget priced and condensed from larger works. Their advertising series is excellent, as are most of their books. Lots of naughty stuff, but also something for everyone (historic, photographic, architecture, cultural…).

  2. I looove the Taschen books. I am so sorry I’m not in my hometown for this sale. Grrrr. For artists they are a particular score, as a lot of their erotica type books are a figure reference bonanza. Very good production values on those books.

  3. I’m bummed that I’m too far away to go to this sale. Dang.

  4. I’m glad it’s in NYC, otherwise I’d be tempted to go give it a look and end up filling my house with books while draining my bank account, for I am weak.

  5. Taschen wanted to publish comics in Europe-=- he loved Challand and Moebius and others– and was shocked to find out how much money it would cost to start up a new company and pay the talent. He found out it was much cheaper to liscence slide images from museums and do low cost artbooks for a mass market audience. So from comics to art books. I heard this from a good friend of his who use to publish Magic Strip in Europe–Challand’s old publisher.

  1. […] As Paul Pope alluded to in the comments, Taschen Books, the art book publisher whose sale we were just telling you about, actually started out as a comics publisher, and there’s more about it on their website, including this picture of what a comics shop in Cologne looked like in 1980, with a picture of a young Benedikt Taschen. Their first comics publication was a German edition of Wally Wood’s erotic adventure Sally Forth. […]
