In her 72 years, Tura Satana learned karate, dated Elvis Presley, tracked down the men who raped her when she was 9, starred in FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL!, was a noted burlesque dancer, broke her back, was married three times, had two daughters, and inspired the entire canon of gothabilly. Who knows how much of it is true, but she was pretty damn cool.
Given how larger-than-life Tura seems in PUSSYCAT, I’m surprised I’ve never seen homages to her in American comics. In some lettercol I heard that she had one appear in (appropriately enough) the SPEED RACER manga, but I’ve not seen it.
Also, she had one issue of her own comic a while back, in which she essentially played Varla, with art by Mike Hoffman.
