Well, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these lists…
It’s the beginning of the month and there’s nothing in the general Zeitgeist or newscycle driving comic book and graphic novel sales. There is the recent Batman movie, but sales of that backlist are not a impressive as those encouraged by “Dark Knight”. Perhaps most of the fans have already bought and read the canon, and these are the “Disney audience” which renews itself every seven years. So I took a look and saw what’s selling at BarnesAndNoble.com. This time, I include another list of the top five nook comics titles, which has a separate bestseller list.
What do I look at? Any title in the Top 1000 titles overall. A title in the Top 100 should be considered a bestseller, as B&N merges all books into one big list, just like USA Today.
This list was snapshot at about 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 7. The Nook title list was generate at 2:30 PM. I have no inside knowledge about what sells on this list, or how it is calculated. The number rankings come from the distinct pages for each title, while the list is what appears when you click the B&N link above. All of the data below, except for my commentary, comes from their website. Click on the cover, title, or author for more information (including illustrators)! All information is from BN.com, I’ve got nothing to do with what’s shown.

The Yugioh gx vol9 is selling well because it comes with a card that could easily be worth more than the book
A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire #1) is not the graphic novel series based on the first book. — it’s just yet another reprinting of the first book.
Whoops… I usually catch those! I should have… the graphic novels have a distinctive trade dress. This probably popped up because those editions are linked. (That happens sometimes when a graphic novel classic gets linked to the original prose classic.)
I’m wondering how different the charts from actual bookstore sales are. Possibly more parents buying for their kids, purchases based on the impression from flipping through the book etc…
