  1. I don’t know…I don’t think this kind of silly press is actually a good thing. Frank Miller is the best comic book writer for – of all things – All-Star Batman and Robin and a Robocop series that was scripted by someone else (Steven Grant)? 30 Days of Night, a comic that came out 5 years ago, is the best comic? Seriously?

Like all other awards shows, this one seems to be just self-referential mutual masturbation by the Hollywood types. Gee, anything comic book related that won an award just happens to be associated with a current hot movie property. Imagine that.

    Give me a break.

In my opinion, comics deserve much, much, much better. At least a bit of respect.

  2. I agree, Dara. How is it that 30 Days of Night won this year’s award when it was published in 2002? Lame. It seems the Scream Awards can’t notice something unless Hollywood has first.

And I’m pretty sure that Pan’s Labyrinth, despite being set in Spain, is a Mexican film. But it’s not a Hollywood film, so who cares?

  3. Oh come on now – don’t lets all be so cynical about it.

I’m happy for Ben and Steve, this kind of press gives the domino effect. People who pick up 30 Days of Night (5 years old or not its still a classic, I’d let Watchmen win next year and not be too choked up about it.) will most likely look for more Templesmith books which will then spill to other “dark painters” and build that genre up. Sounds good to me.

Any TV award show that gives awards to mass-market sensations like Transformers, and has Miller and Cassaday as recipients in the same breath is OK in my book.

Jen and Dara – you two are too fanboy-ish about this ;-) I’m with Christopher.
