ATTENTION COSPLAYERS!

Want to win a year’s worth of Del Rey Manga? Come in costume as your favorite Del Rey Manga character and let us take your picture in our booth. It’s that simple! One lucky cosplayer will be selected at random to win all Del Rey Manga’s releases for an entire year! Worth dressing up for? Oh, yeah!

Additionally, Del Rey Manga’s favorite costumes (judged on artistic style, technical skill, and character resemblance) will be featured on our website after the show for a “viewers-choice” poll where fan-favorites can be picked.

Entry forms and waiting photographers will be at hand at the Del Rey Manga booth #1135! We look forward to seeing you there!

MEET LAURELL K. HAMILTON!

Comic-Con Special Guest Laurell K. Hamilton will be at our booth #1135 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27th for a special signing of her book Mistral’s Kiss. In order to be most fair to all of the author’s fans, this event will be limited and ticketed. Please visit the Del Rey/Villard booth #1135 prior to Friday afternoon for details on obtaining an autograph ticket.

ORIGAMI CHALLENGE!

Among the more elegant forms possible in origami (the Japanese art of paper-folding) is the crane. Legend has it that whomever folds 1,000 origami cranes will see their wish come true. Some have devoted months and years of their lives to folding these transcendent birds, but with your help, maybe we can do it in a weekend. Come by our booth for instructions and paper and drop off your folded crane during the show. We’ll keep count toward our 1,000-crane goal and if we make it, maybe we’ll all see our wishes come true.

NOT GOING TO SAN DIEGO?

So if you’re heading to San Diego, you better drop by our booth and say hello. But if you’re not going, fear not! You can still experience the action at San Diego Comic-Con through the eyes of the Del Rey Manga team! Del Rey Manga is happy to announce that we’ve partnered with popular otaku website Active Anime to bring you special updates straight from the convention floor. Visit Active Anime throughout the show for news and information straight from Del Rey Manga. It’s the next best thing to being there.

Paul Wilson (Repairman Jack novels), David Morrell (Captain America: The Chosen), Max Allan Collins (A Killing in Comics), and Elizabeth Forrest (At Twilight’s Fall) plan their next victims. Authors of prose and comics discuss how—or whether!—they write differently for different media. 3:30PM – 4:30PM
Del Rey Manga
Room 10

The Del Rey Manga team will be on hand for exciting new manga announcements—both Japanese and OEL—plus an exclusive look at Terry Brooks’ first-ever graphic novel, Dark Wraith of Shannara, and the usual fun of the Del Rey Q&A. Get those questions ready now and Dallas Middaugh (Associate Publisher), Ali T. Kokmen (Marketing Manager), Mutsumi Miyazaki (Director of Licensing and Acquisitions), and Tricia Narwani (Del Rey Manga Editorial Associate) will do their best to answer and/or dodge them!

Sunday, July 29th

10:30AM – 11:30AM
The Graphic Novel Explosion
Room 8

Up until the last few years, graphic novels were published primarily by specialty houses that produced only comics and related works. Now, however, traditional mainstream publishing houses are producing graphic novels and even setting up graphic novel divisions, spurred by bookstore sales trends, library demand, and critical recognition. What has led to this trend? What sorts of books are these publishers looking for? Who is the audience? What role has manga played? And is the graphic novel market going to continue to expand, or will the bubble burst? Panelists include Dallas Middaugh (Associate Publisher, Del Rey Manga); Chris Schluep (Editor, Ballantine/Del Rey/Villard); Charles Kochman (Senior Editor, Harry N. Abrams); David Saylor (Creative Director, Scholastic/Graphix); Karen Berger (Executive Editor, Vertigo/Minx/DC); Mark Siegel (Senior Editor, First Second); and Calvin Reid (news editor, Publisher’s Weekly, and co-editor, PW Comics Weekly). Moderated by Jackie Estrada, Eisner Awards administrator and consultant to Foreword magazine’s Comique graphic novel supplement.
