As San Diego Comic-Con International (July 23rd-27th, 2008) grows each year, your favorite comic book creators can be harder and harder to find. In an effort to reach out to their fans, several groups of top comic artists and writers have dug into their own pockets for premium booth space in prime locations this year, right in the heart of the main exhibit hall.
For the fourth year in a row, theBLVD studio (booth #2707, across from Dark Horse Comics) will set up their own shop to meet fans on the main show floor. Tommy Lee Edwards (1985, BULLET POINTS), along with Sean Chen (SALVATION RUN, IRON MAN), Trevor Goring (WATERLOO SUNSET, WHAT IF? FALLEN SON), John Paul Leon (WINTERMEN, EARTH X), and Bernard Chang (WONDER WOMAN, THE GAME), will be signing autographs and providing portfolio critiques for aspiring artists, as well as selling original comic book art pages, new art prints, commissioned sketches, and limited copies of their acclaimed sketchbooks (including volume 3.0, featuring artwork by legendary artist Walter Simonson).
For the first time, the group of Jill Thompson (SANDMAN, SCARY GODMOTHER), Brian Wood (DMZ, NORTHLANDERS), and Cliff Chiang (GREEN ARROW & BLACK CANARY, DOCTOR 13) will have their own booth (booth #1322, next to First Second Books). Nestled between the popular publisher and retailer pavilions, their booth provides exceptional convenience and the unique opportunity for attendees to shop at nearby booksellers and have those items signed by the creators. Jill, Brian, and Cliff will also have graphic novels (including rare and out-of-print editions), art prints, original comic art, paintings, framed canvas pieces, tattoo flash and a number of commissioned sketches for sale at their booth. Also debuting on the show floor this year is the group of Darwyn Cooke (DC:THE NEW FRONTIER, THE SPIRIT), Cameron Stewart (CATWOMAN, THE OTHER SIDE) and Dave Bullock (JUSTICE LEAGUE:THE NEW FRONTIER, ACTION COMICS) at booth #2207 (near DC Comics). The incredible threesome will have full-color art books and original art, and will host creator signings with some of their most notable collaborators, including Grant Morrison and Ed Brubaker.
