We can tell you already that comiXology is going to have a BIG show, and here’s the first announcement: a new Simpsons-themed app for iOS devices which will roll out tomorrow with a specially chosen selection of Bongo-published Simpsons comics. Interestingly, the comics will NOT be day and date but rather go on sale a month after newsstands.

Matt Groening, creator of “The Simpsons” and Publisher of Bongo Comics announces a brand new way for fans to get caught reading Simpsons comic books! Radioactive Man, Bart Simpson, Simpsons Comics, and many other Simpsons-related comic book titles will be available in digital form for iPads and iPhones with a Simpsons Comics iOS app developed by Bongo and comiXology.

The long-awaited Simpsons Comics app will go live during the Bongo Comics panel at Comic-Con International on Thursday July 12th.

For the Simpsons Comics iOS app debut, a selection of twenty hand-picked issues from Bongo’s nearly twenty-year history can be bought and downloaded. To celebrate the debut of the app, a free copy of Simpsons Comics #100 will also be available for a short time at comiXology.com.

The comics available at launch are:
• Bart Simpson #1, 72
• Bartman # 1, 2
• Lisa Comics #1
• Radioactive Man #8, 100
• Simpsons Comics  #1, 40, 87, 109, 131, 149, 175, 191
• Simpsons One-Shot Wonders: Bart Simpson’s Pal Milhouse #1
• Simpsons One-Shot Wonders: Ralph Wiggum Comics #1
• Simpsons Summer Shindig #1
• Simpsons Super Spectacular #1, 15

Digital versions of all new Simpsons comic book titles will be available on the app within a month after their direct market print release, accompanied by selected classic issues from the Bongo archive. After the launch the Simpsons Comics app will offer at least two digital releases each week, featuring both new and classic issues.

“Our plan is to help Simpsons comics fans to experience the fun of collecting our comics in the digital world the same way they would collect printed comics,” remarked Bill Morrison, Bongo’s head of digital development. “They’ll be able to get current issues, and also discover and collect back issues a few at a time until they build a complete collection.”

“It’s hard to contain my joy that comiXology is powering the Simpson Comics app and working with Matt Groening,” said comiXology CEO and Co-Founder David Steinberger. “We are huge Simpsons fans over here at comiXology and being able to deliver The Simpsons Comics app as well as featuring The Simpsons comics on the comiXology platform for iOS, Web, Android and Kindle Fire is sweet, indeed.”

The Simpsons Comics iOS app sports all the features comiXology 3.1 version powered apps are known for; notably the company’s Guided ViewTM Technology that mimics the reading experience of a traditional print comic book, enabling Simpsons comics readers to transition smoothly between different comic panels, and CMX-HD, the high definition comic format for users of the new iPad.

The Simpsons Comics iOS app is available for download through iTunes for the iPhone and iPad beginning July 12th.
