There’s a new show on the Nerdist Channel called ‘Just Cosplay’ and I was given a sneak look at the first episode, live now. It features Stella Chuu at Emerald City as she goes around cosplaying as Kabuki from David Mack’s series of the same name. The series will follow popular cosplayers and show how […]
I’m addicted to Russian dashboard camera videos. The best ones have loud Russian disco playing, but they are pretty much all good, revealing a sullen post-modern, post GTA world of grey skies (occasionally streaked by shocking meteors), endless snow, brutalist architecture and of course, bad driving. Why Russians love dashcams so much isn’t quite clear […]
by Lawrence Brenner — Cosplay is one of the most visual and important aspects of conventions especially in the last ten years. It is one of the greatest and creative expressions of fandom, displaying a multitude of art forms combined. In addition, many cosplayers are employed in multiple capacities by companies to help in the promotion of their products, services, etc. Cosplayers themselves are also a new form of retailer for and at conventions (and con goers) who sell various products based on their likenesses as various characters and interpretations of from different properties, and this includes props and commissions. In fact, many cosplayers and photographers/videographers go to conventions to photograph and videograph different cosplayers and be the subjects of photos and videos.
I’m sure everyone has now read up on the details of the arrest regarding the 17-year-old cosplayed who was found injured and was presumably attacked at Comic-Con on Saturday night. The man who was arrested was 29-year-old Justin Kailor, a photographer associated with something called Project Cosplay. Kailor was friends with the victim, and indeed […]

By Hannah Lodge Black Milk Clothing appeared at the San Diego Comic Con DC Entertainment booth to show off their licensed line of DC-inspired clothing and to announce a second release in October, which will feature Harley Quinn and The Riddler. The new release will include A Riddler catsuit, and a Harley Quinn skater dress, […]
Despite the glut of unscripted reality TV shows and the lack of recent breakout hits, there is still some slightly untilled ground. For years I’ve been saying a cosplay competition show would be a natural, although nerdcentric TV shows are vastly less popular than shows focusing on rednecks and nouveau riche wives. Although SyFy’s Fangasm […]
Another report of a bunch of youtube perverts harassing cosplayers while posing as a legitimate camera crew news outlet has emerged from London Super Comic Con, as reported by a cosplayer known as Lady Noctis. The event is similar to the one that took place at New York Comic Con last fall, with a camera crew asking women in costume to be interviewed and then asking them vulgar and harassing questions.
This gallery of photos from a 1980’s SF Convention has been floating around for a while, but it just crossed my timestream. While all convention photos from every era share a few things—gaudy hotel carpet backgrounds, at least one ill at ease looking guy with a pencil mustache, women with flaming red hair—this one does prove a few things. Although they didn’t call it “cosplay” back then —I believe the term was costuming—obviously people liked dressing just as scantily.
Hey there, we’re transferred Stately Beat Manor to the warm Aboda Hotel in Dearborn, and have been enjoying the hospitality of the Detroit Fanfare folk and fans. Today was the cosplay contest and there have been some great outfits. As with most recent shows we’ve been to, there are tons of costumes for both adult […]
We’re at the end of our SDCC coverage! And we’re ending with Megan Byrd’s final selection of photos taken around the site. She’s found more fantastic cosplay than you can shake Gambit’s staff at, as well as looks at various signings, exhibits, art galleries and more! My favourite? The happy family of supervillains..
Well, once again, we are repainting the kitchen to hide the stains we couldn’t clean, the comics cellar is being refiled, the liquor bottles refilled, and the linens have been burnt, per EPA regulations. (And the capuchin monkeys have been bribed with money directly wired to their E*Trade account.) The Beatrix shall return shortly from […]
