Today’s Inside Edition to report on Comic-Con harassment

Inside-Edition-America-s-Newsmagazine-Breaking-News-Latest-Stories-Videos-Photos.jpg

Oh my! I’ve been waiting for the story of cosplay harassment at cons to get more TMZed. According to the above teaser, tonights’ Inside Edition, which is syndicated nationally, is going to do a story on “the dark side of Comic-Con” which involves inappropriate touching and the usual harassment problems. I doubt this will set […]

Her Universe and Ours

Signs aren’t the only thing greeting attendees at the entrance to New York Comicon. Amidst the registration booths and all too quickly emptied bins for lanyards ReedPOP has its own boutique, featuring the geek-chic fashion of Ashley Eckstein’s Her Universe line.

Cosplay, Consent and Signs of the Times

nycc-cosplay-consent

Attendees at this year’s New York Comic Con are accustomed to giant-sized announcements for the latest entertainment, but this year a new sign greets visitors as they wander around the hype-encrusted Javits Center: branded displays proclaiming that “Cosplay is not consent.” The conspicuous sexual harassment policies at New York and a growing number of other […]

NY Mets rookies in female superhero cosplay hazing ritual

ByFjt2FIEAEs4Nb

Where is Milo Manara when you need him? The regulation baseball season has seven days to go, which can’t come soon enough for NY baseball fans, although the tearful Derek Jeter final sendoff still looms. In another fall ritual, baseball rookies were subjected to generally harmless “hazing.”A few years ago this consisted of just wearing a My Little Pony backpack around the bullpen, but since that’s practically normal now, the ritual has become much more complicated, as the NY Mets rookies were required to dress as female superheroes for the road trip from Atlanta to Washington.

Nerdist launches ‘Just Cosplay’ with Stella Chuu episode

Just Cosplay Stella Chuu as David Mack s Kabuki on Vimeo

There’s a new show on the Nerdist Channel called ‘Just Cosplay’ and I was given a sneak look at the first episode, live now. It features Stella Chuu at Emerald City as she goes around cosplaying as Kabuki from David Mack’s series of the same name. The series will follow popular cosplayers and show how […]

Shocking Russian dash cam video captures furry beatdown

201409031249.jpg

I’m addicted to Russian dashboard camera videos. The best ones have loud Russian disco playing, but they are pretty much all good, revealing a sullen post-modern, post GTA world of grey skies (occasionally streaked by shocking meteors), endless snow, brutalist architecture and of course, bad driving. Why Russians love dashcams so much isn’t quite clear […]

Con Wars: What’s happening on the Cosplay competition circuit front

cosplay

by Lawrence Brenner — Cosplay is one of the most visual and important aspects of conventions especially in the last ten years. It is one of the greatest and creative expressions of fandom, displaying a multitude of art forms combined. In addition, many cosplayers are employed in multiple capacities by companies to help in the promotion of their products, services, etc. Cosplayers themselves are also a new form of retailer for and at conventions (and con goers) who sell various products based on their likenesses as various characters and interpretations of from different properties, and this includes props and commissions. In fact, many cosplayers and photographers/videographers go to conventions to photograph and videograph different cosplayers and be the subjects of photos and videos.

Update on the injured cosplayer

201407311529.jpg

I’m sure everyone has now read up on the details of the arrest regarding the 17-year-old cosplayed who was found injured and was presumably attacked at Comic-Con on Saturday night. The man who was arrested was 29-year-old Justin Kailor, a photographer associated with something called Project Cosplay. Kailor was friends with the victim, and indeed […]

“Call to Cosplay” reality show debuts Monday on MyxTV

C2C Screenshot 1

Despite the glut of unscripted reality TV shows and the lack of recent breakout hits, there is still some slightly untilled ground. For years I’ve been saying a cosplay competition show would be a natural, although nerdcentric TV shows are vastly less popular than shows focusing on rednecks and nouveau riche wives. Although SyFy’s Fangasm […]

Live from HeroesCon plus cosplay photos

IMG_7883.jpg

HeroesCon Day Two wound up a little while ago. The shot above is from opening yesterday around noon. The crowds have increased quite a bit since then.

As usual it’s a laid back show. Most of the talk from fans and pros alike is how much they enjoy the show. Not very much newsworthy although […]

Another creepy camera crew was stalking cosplayers at London Super Comic Con

Another report of a bunch of youtube perverts harassing cosplayers while posing as a legitimate camera crew news outlet has emerged from London Super Comic Con, as reported by a cosplayer known as Lady Noctis. The event is similar to the one that took place at New York Comic Con last fall, with a camera crew asking women in costume to be interviewed and then asking them vulgar and harassing questions.

Singapore cosplayer finds room for all his mecha parts in amazing Ikea ad

Okay this is an ad for Ikea, but it is also a fantasy for most of us. Like, a Sex in the City/Axe ad level fantasy.

Photos: 1980’s cosplay was just as sexy, but they seemingly didn’t know how to sew

1980’s-Sci-Fi-Convention-7.jpg

This gallery of photos from a 1980’s SF Convention has been floating around for a while, but it just crossed my timestream. While all convention photos from every era share a few things—gaudy hotel carpet backgrounds, at least one ill at ease looking guy with a pencil mustache, women with flaming red hair—this one does prove a few things. Although they didn’t call it “cosplay” back then —I believe the term was costuming—obviously people liked dressing just as scantily.
