TweetHello and welcome! We are starting a weekly art thingy and have -rather thoughtfully- set it for Friday, that interminable day where the weekend is within touching distance and yet you still have to be at work. Hence, pretty and cool stuff that will help tide you over- forget words, just feast your eyes. This [...]
Tweet The opening titles of The Adventures of Tintin, while not technically part of the screenplay, offer a jaunty, tongue-in-cheek symposium on the action-adventure genre. Or, that is to say, on the films of Steven Spielberg. There’s a boy, he’s got a companion, in this case a dog, and there is danger and bad guys and [...]
Hey America! You’ve been given what you always wanted — a TINTIN movie directed by Steven Spielberg! Right?
But despite the years of clamor for this entertainment — and the enthusiastic bowler-hatted selling by Spielberg and co-producer Peter Jackson — THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN has been a bit of an underperformer at the crowded Chrsitmas box office, coming in at #5 for the long weekend with a 4-day weekend take of $14.3 million and a cumulative of $22.3 million. This has not been a huge worry to Paramount and Sony, however, because worldwide, it’s already made $240 million.
A lengthy trailer for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn has finally been released that actually shows faces and things.
As you may recall, this film is a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson and has been fashioned using mocap technology — and will be presented in 3D
PLUSSES: Obviously a very smart lietrate script by Steve Moffat (Doctor Who), Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim) and Joe Cornish (many smart British things.) It’s not too often you watch a trailer for an action movie and think “Wow, that is a well written script!”
MINUSES: Jeepers did they shoot this in some kind of overcranked mode? It is so ssslllloooowwww. Everyone moves in poetic Malick-cam motion.
Tweet With images from the upcoming Tintin movies being released I thought it would be a good time to post some photos from my visit to the Hergé Museum earlier this year. The museum is located in in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, about half an hour from Brussels by train. Louvain-la-Neuve is a very new town, and [...]
French film site Films Actu has what look to be more Empire mag scans of the Steven Spielberg-directed Tintin movie. They show the Thompson/Dupin twins, villain Barnaby and the endless desert. Also, based on these stills, Tintin will spend the entire movie with his face obscured or in shadow.
While there may be some perception that comic book movie fever is cooling off, at least one super-epic-mega film that will change the world is in the works — the Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson Tintin 3D-mocap-CGI epic. Spielberg is directing while Jackson produces The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, which comes out 12/23/11. The cast includes Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones, Mackenzie Crook, Carey Elwes and Daniel Mays, most of whom did mocap or supplied vocal talents.
TweetWhile some comic companies may be shutting down websites that post their comics illegally, Moulinsart, the company which owns the rights to Hergé’s work, is busy suing people that use excerpts from Tintin adventures in scholarly work, launching personal attacks on journalists, and losing millions of euros a year. The Financial Times article has more, [...]
