Yes it’s another NYC event, but this two day festival of comics sounds quite worthwhile. The FREE event includes special events, panel discussions, film screenings, hands-on workshops and exhibit tables with premiere black comic artists from across the country.  And it seems to be growing:

Last year’s premiere installation drew 1,200 people — double the number that registered. This year, 1,300 registered, and the organizers expect many more to attend.

Black Comic Book Festival at Schomburg Center for Black Research and Culture at 515 Malcolm X Blvd. on the corner of 135th St. and Lenox Ave., Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. and Jan. 18 at noon .

  1. I just came from there. It was packed! I wish every internet commenter who says that black people, and especially black children, aren’t interested in comics could have seen that crowd.
