Once again, it’s another week full of scintillating comics events. Here’s the rundown:

Author and celebrity comics nerd Michael Chabon (THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY) will present a lecture on why super heros wear costumes, a topic he pondered earlier this year in The New Yorker. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online.


Tuesday, December 9

Montreal, QC, 7:30 PMKRAMERS ERGOT 7 at Librairie Drawn & Quarterly

The crew behind the plus-sized anthology KRAMERS ERGOT 7 will make their first stop of the week at Drawn & Quarterly’s bookstore. Contributors at this signing will be Shary Boyle, C.F., Sammy Harkham, Kevin Huizenga, John Pham, Ron Rege Jr., and Souther Salazar.

Wednesday, December 10

Toronto, ON, 3 PM – 7 PM – Hulk 100 Project at Paradise Comics

As a benefit for The Hero Initiative, Marvel commissioned over 100 artists to draw unique covers for THE HULK #1, which have all been collected in the HULK 100 PROJECT book. To be celebrating the release of the book, contributing artists Dale Keown, Leonard Kirk, Agnes Garbowska and Francis Manapul will be signing at Paradise Comics.

Wednesday, December 10

Manhattan Beach, CA, 7 PMHulk 100 Project at The Comic Bug

Artists Joe Benitez, Scott Koblish, Bill Morrison, Tone Rodriguez, Aaron Sowd and Joe Rubinstein will be signing at The Comic Bug to promote the HULK 100 PROJECT. There will be a live DJ, free drinks and snacks and prize raffles.

Wednesday, December 10

Sherman Oaks, CA, 4 PM – 6 PMTop Cow Hometown Tour

Representatives from Top Cow Productions and artist Michael Broussard (THE DARKNESS) will be at their hometown comic store, Earth-2 Comics, to talk to readers, give away comics and prizes and conduct portfolio reviews.


Wednesday, December 10

Los Angeles, CA, 5 PM – 6 PMJimmy Palmiotti and Phil Noto at Golden Apple

Creators Jimmy Palmiotti and Phil Noto will meet fans at Golden Apple Comics. There will be an XBOX set up to play the new Mortal Combat vs. DCU video game which Palmiotti wrote.


Thursday, December 11

New York, NY, 5 PM – 7 PMRob Liefeld and Phil Hotsenpiller at Midtown Comics

Artist Rob Liefeld (YOUNGBLOOD) will be appearing at Midtown Comics, along with pastor-turned-writer Phil Hotsenpiller to promote WORLD WAR III, the first graphic novel in their apocalyptic ARMAGEDDON NOW series .

Toronto retailer The Beguiling hosts the touring KRAMERS ERGOT 7 crew at an event 918 Bathurst Street, a former Buddhist temple. Appearing will be: Seth, Shary Boyle, C.F., Sammy Harkham, Kevin Huizenga, John Pham, Ron Rege Jr., and Souther Salazar.

Thursday, December 11

Montreal, QC, 8 PMBEBE and LE BATHYSCAPHE double book launch

Drawn & Quarterly’s bookstore will be hosting a double launch party for BEBE, Nadia Moss’s new book of illustrations, and LE BATHYSCAPHE, billed as a bilingual cultural journal for those who aren’t interested in the news. Both are from by Montreal small press publisher L’Oie de Cravan.

Somerville, MA, 7:30 PM -10:30 PM – Three man show at Diesel Cafe

Adam Miller (THE MURDER ROAD, THE UNDERBURBS), Andy Houle and Dave Ferreira will celebrate the opening of their joint show at Sommerville’s Diesel Cafe with an artist reception. The show runs through January 1.

Tayor, MIBilly Tucci and WWII veterans at Wonder World Comics

SGT. ROCK: THE LOST BATTALION artist and SHI creator Billy Tucci will make two appearances at Wonder World Comics, along with 442nd Regimental Combat Team veteran Virgil Nishimura Westdale, 101st Airborne veteran and author Donald Burgett and author Mark Bando. On Friday the store will host a discussion group (no autograph signing) from 7 PM – 10 PM, and on Saturday there will be a Q&A session from noon – 1 PM followed by a signing from 1 PM – 5 PM.

  1. This Ergot 7 North American tour is quite interesting. Probably the best way to market this special art project. Since it’s bigger than “life”, why not an over-the-top book tour… “Sorry, sir, that comic cannot be carried onboard the plane, it’s too large. You must check it with your luggage”
    The antithesis of the online digital comic!

  2. I have to say I was wrong about KE7. When I finally saw it in person, I understood why it costs what it does and why it’s awesome despite the cost. I now badly want it and have asked everyone to chip in for it for my Christmas gift.

    Also, the KE event in Pittsburgh was *awesome*. It was way more fun than any convention I’ve ever been to. It was everything a comic gathering should be – exciting, music, and lots of conversation.
