Veteran voice actor Tom Wayland and others, will read from some of the most politically charged excerpts of THE SANDMAN written by New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman, in honor of the 20th Anniversary of THE SANDMAN.
Presented by the CBLDF and Vertigo, Neil Gaiman will be on hand to host this dramatic reading which will be held at the Helen Mills Theater in New York City on Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 pm. Coat: Sandman #54 inspired the oneshot “Smells Like Teen President”
Many of the voice actors are also anime/cartoon actors. The panels were projected on screen, with the actors on stage. Neil Gaiman was quite taken with the result, and contemplated a six-hour reading of “A Game Of You”. He was also surprised at how well his dialogue, written for the eye also worked well when adapted for the ear.
After the intermission, Neil read questions submitted by the audience. The Dream movie at New Line is in hiatus, pending the reorganization of Warner Pictures. He would also like to write for the stage, and has a project he is working on. He also read from his forthcoming picture book, “Blueberry Girl”, illustrated by P. Craig Russell, and commissioned by Tori Amos. (HarperCollins, Spring 2009)
