WATCHMEN — the games

Variety reports that WATCHMEN will be adapted as a series of downlaodable games . Two are planned with one coming out when the movie does and the other with the DVD release. The games are being developed by Danish developer Deadline Games, and will star Rorschach and Nite Owl, hurm hurm.

WBIE execs said that by producing shorter downloadable games, rather than a full-priced disc version, they’ll have more flexibility to produce high-quality titles on a tight production schedule of just more than a year.

“We don’t want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail,” said WBIE senior veep of production and development Samantha Ryan. “A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect.”

  1. “Mr. Moore will you sign my DVD of Watchmen Babies? Which of the babies is you favorite?”

    -facepalm-

  2. Actually, I just thought of a better quote for this news.

Moichandising! Moichandising, where the real money from the movie is made! Watchmen-the T-shirt, Watchmen-the Coloring Book, Watchmen-the Lunch box, Watchmen-the Breakfast Cereal, Watchmen-the Flaaaaaaaaame Thrower. (You too can be like the Comedian, kids!)

And last but not least, Watchmen the doll.

“42nd Street: Women’s breasts draped across every billboard, every display, littering the sidewalk. Was offered Swedish love and French love, but not American love. American love; like coke in green glass bottles, they don’t make it anymore.”

Uh.. ask you parents for one today?

Actually, considering I have a 18inch talking Leonidas do.. er.. action figure as well as a smaller V for Vendetta one, I have to confess some hypocrisy there. What better way to discuss a book / movie about fighting authority than paying AOL Time Warner for a toy made by Chinese morlock labor? Huzzah. Hello, my name is Xenos. I’m an addict to these petroleum products known as action figures.

Also, as a side note, most of these simplified downloadable games are crap. Hurm. When do we get Atlas Shrugged or Catcher in the Rye as a mini-game I can play on my cellphone?

  3. Torsten Adair says:

Maybe WBE was inspired by their previous success with the E.T. video game?
if Zac is clever, the kid at the newsstand will be watching Tales Of The Black Freighter on a Sony Watchman ipod. If he is extremely clever Dick Giordano will have a cameo.

  4. Mr. Viedt, the video game company called. They asked what enemies they should put in the Ozymandias downloadable video game. What should I tell them?

  5. RDaggle says:

“We don’t want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail,” … “A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect.”

Translation: our target market is drunk in the middle of the night with internet access and a credit card.

  6. A-Rod says:

It’s being reported that Len Wein is writing dialog for the games and Dave Gibbons himself is overseeing the art direction. I’m betting they’ll still suck though. I mean, what good has come out of Denmark besides Viggo Mortensen and a setting for Shakespear plays?
