Howard The Duck -8It is a very very kwiet day in comics news. Is everyone off voting? Maybe. DON’T FORGET TO VOTE.

Oh yeah and while we’re at it…why are Mac mouses so crappy?

  1. It’s a fallacy to think that a Mac can’t use a regular mouse.

I have both MACs & a PC and since I STARTED my computer experience with a PC I became used to the 2,3,4& 5 button mice that proliferate the tech-landscape.

    When I FIRST saw a mac, with it’s one-click-does-all mouse…I FREAKED.

Then, I discovered that you CAN have multiple button mice for the MAC.
It’s all about the connection port.
Match that (sometimes you can buy a cheap adapter) and you’re set.

I currently use a old Logitech (model M-UB48) mouse with 2 buttons and a center scroll nub on my Primary Mac.

(I really use my WACOM tablet as my primary navigational tool – because using a pen is much more natural – AND NO CARPAL TUNNEL, but that’s besides the point.)

The others have similar mice, but are more for file storage and such so it’s not really an issue.

So, either get an adapter for your favorite mouse, or go buy a MAC multi-button mouse.

    I hope that helps.

  2. Mac mice are crappy if you’ve advanced past the “you mean it’s not a footswitch?” phase. Incredibly pretty. But kind of crappy. As P-TOR points out, you can pretty much run down the aisle of your Friendly Neighborhood Office Supply Store and grab any mouse that feels right for your hands as long as it has a USB interface on it.

I use a Kensington TurboMouse trackball, myself, because I hate computer mice in general. Also, I’d skip out on installing the driver software everybody else gives you and go straight to http://www.usboverdrive.com to get Alessandro Montalcini’s universal USB device driver. You might lose out on some whiz-bang feature they implemented half-heartedly on the Mac, but USB Overdrive is lightweight, stable, and gives me enough control over my mouse to make me happy. Works with joysticks and gamepads, too.

  3. “DON’T FORGET TO VOTEâ€?

Um, if you forgot to follow the issues (via more than one source) and you’re just planning to vote the way somebody told you to, then please stay home.

  4. You’re kidding, right? The Mighty Mouse is the mightiest piece of crap I’ve ever used. I’ve had it three months, and granted, I use it quite a bit, but the tracker button is already not working, and the “right left” touch sensitive thing has NEVER worked. Why can’t Apple just bite the bullet and make a real two or three button mouse?????

  5. “(I really use my WACOM tablet as my primary navigational tool – because using a pen is much more natural – AND NO CARPAL TUNNEL, but that’s besides the point.)”

Yes! Yes, a thousand times Yes!! Why anyone would want to use a wonky old mouse (MAC or PC) over a natural pen in hand is beyond me.
