Comics and graphic novel publisher Ablaze announced that a Kickstarter for the hardcover edition of Mark Russell‘s Traveling to Mars, which snagged two Eisner Award nominations for Best New Series and Best Writer, has been launched. This edition will collect all 11 issues and include a cover gallery, bonus material, and an introduction by the renowned comic book writer Patton Oswalt. The introduction is also included in the softcover TP edition when it gets distributed to the direct market and bookstore market.
The higher pledges will include a slipcase set for different colors such as silver, gold, and platinum, as well as original art sketches from Russell and the artist Roberto Meli, an acrylic stand, and t-shirt. Pledges from Europe will also be able to get the Italian and French language edition of Traveling to Mars.

The 256-page series marks the first Mark Russell title published by Ablaze and marks Italian artist Meli’s entry into the American market. The synopsis is as follows:
Traveling to mars tells the story of former pet store manager Roy Livingston, the first human to ever set foot on Mars. Roy was chosen for the unlikely mission for one simple reason: he is terminally ill and has no expectation of returning. Roy is joined on his mission by Leopold and Albert, two Mars rovers equipped with artificial intelligence, who look upon the dying pet store manager as a sort of God. Traveling to Mars was a very pleasant surprise. I recommend this to anyone searching for a great read.
