Another crossover event is on the horizon, and this one you don’t want to miss. On August 6th, 2025, Archie Andrews and his beloved Riverdale Gang will dive headfirst into the chaotic world of Minor Threats, a comic series by comedian/author Patton Oswalt and writer/producer Jordan Blum.
Screen Rant exclusively revealed on Friday, April 11, 2025, Archie Comics’ next crossover event: Archie vs. Minor Threats #1, written by Oswalt, Blum, and Timmy Heague and illustrated by Scott Koblish. Described as an “epic amalgamation,” the four-issue miniseries merges the charming small-town Americana of Archie, a pop culture institution for 80-plus years, with the gritty, violent world of Minor Threats, a creator-owned series debuting in 2023.
According to the crossover’s initial synopsis, the worlds of Minor Threats and Archie will collide thanks to Riverdale’s resident witch, Sabrina. Tonally, the miniseries promises to mirror the darkly comedic violence in Oswalt and Blum’s Minor Threats series, making it a “fish out of water story” for Archie and his pals. Interestingly, the synopsis suggests not everyone—Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica—will be on the same side when the conflict heats up.
Dark Horse sets the stage for Archie vs. Minor Threats with this tantalizing preview:
It’s your favorite high schoolers forced to fight your favorite costumed villains in a story that will have lasting ramifications for all involved! Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and friends are on their way to Twilight City for a field trip when the magical meddling of Sabrina the Teenage Witch lands them in the seedy underbelly of Redport, the most villainous part of town, which is controlled by Frankie Follis, aka Playtime, and her gang of Minor Threats. Archie and the others suddenly find themselves drafted into both sides of the war Playtime is waging against magic users on her turf. One thing is for sure: blood and milkshakes will be spilled!
Dark Horse Comics, the publisher of Minor Threats, promises that Archie vs. Minor Threats will have “lasting ramifications” for all involved. Thus, making it more than a frivolous non-canon crossover.
While some may see the mix of Archie and Minor Threats as an eccentric novelty, Blum says the “how the hell is that gonna work?” feeling is essential to the series. He emphasizes that the stark differences between Archie Comics and his series are at the heart of the excitement, presenting a unique challenge for creators to find a way to fuse the two worlds.
He told Screen Rant:
Some of my favorite comic crossovers have been the ones where you go “how the hell is that gonna work?!” Which, by the way, is the appropriate response to pitting the all-American teenagers of Archie against the down on their luck supervillains of Minor Threats. What was born out of this unlikely pairing was a story that dramatically affects the events of Frankie’s journey and super crime for years to come, while also exploring unique character dynamics that challenge the Riverdale gang’s status quo like we’ve never seen. This is one of the funniest, most action-packed, most violently unhinged stories we’ve ever done and one that can only exist in the medium of comics. Put on your domino masks and raise your milkshakes… this one is gonna be a barn burner!
