Almost every creator in the competitive world of comics is trying to stand out in one way or another. Thus it comes as a bit of a surprise that writer Rich Douek (Sea of Sorrows, Road of Bones) is doing so by tapping into his family’s restaurant background and pairing it with the creator’s love of comics: all in an upcoming web series called Comic Book Kitchen.

“I’m thrilled to introduce Comic Book Kitchen,” said Douek. “In a saturated market, it can be challenging for comics to stand out. This series is my way of celebrating the stories that have inspired me, from classics to hidden gems, alongside a few of my own creations.”

New episodes will be posted on Douek’s TikTok and Instagram pages and will kick off this Wednesday 7/17. Each episode of Comic Book Kitchen will feature Douek talking about comics while showcasing personal recipes inspired by these comics’ themes, characters, or settings. Kind of like Binging with Babish (except with Rich Douek), episodes will also feature a bit of everything in terms of food, whether it be entrees or desserts.

Now to be candid, a cooking and food-based variety show mixed with comics actually makes sense in this market. Nowadays, there’s just so much content out in the world, and both algorithms and publishers, are always looking for the next unique thing. In a world where social media is constantly changing plus Google search continues to fail us – creating content is actually a good idea for any creative. In fact, just a few years back, Michelin star chef Paul Eschbach did the opposite approach, going from world-renowned chef to part-time comics creator, with a Marvel Unlimited series called T.E.S.T. kitchen.
