Craniacs, the wildly popular trading card sensation, is gearing up for an exciting 2025 with the launch of Series 2 this Spring. Plus, fan-favorite characters from the trading cards will be starring in a new comic adventure that will hit the shelves of your local comic book shop this Fall, courtesy of Titan Comics, along with a new TV series for kids 6-12, which is currently being developed by the talented team at Titmouse, known for hit animations like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The Craniacs trading cards, which debuted in October 2023, were brought to life by the creative minds of former Topps senior executive Ira Friedman and leading Garbage Pail Kids artist Joe Simko. With their stunning visuals and captivating narratives, these cards have struck a chord with collectors and enthusiasts with fans on the hunt for exclusive inserts, such as unique 1/1 sketch cards, foil cards, numbered variants, and even a special “golden ticket” card, which grants the lucky winner an original painting from the series.
The Craniacs universe, where everyone’s got a skull for a head, is about what happens after two planets with very different societies crash into each other. When the citizens of Retrovia, with its Stone Age vibes, meet the ultra-modern Futerra, both societies are forced to figure out how to coexist in this chaotic new reality. Spoiler alert: they often settle their squabbles with some zany competitions in what is known in-game as the “Chrome Dome Arena.”
According to icV2, Friedman commented on the validation of the property. He said, “It’s a real vote of confidence for Craniacs that Titmouse, a company with such talent and high regard, will be applying their special magic to our original IP.”
The new Craniacs comic book series will be illustrated by fan favorite Garbage Pail Kids artist Joe Simko and penned by acclaimed Batman, Superman, and Scooby-Doo writer Sholly Fisch. Per the Titan Comics press release, fans can expect “a rollercoaster of high-octane action, hilarious physical comedy, and wild tournament antics, all while highlighting the importance of friendship, camaraderie, and family.”
“We cannot be more jazzed about joining forces with the Titan Comics team and collaborating on Craniacs,” said co-creators Friedman and Simko in the press release. “Our popular trading cards have set the stage for Titan to build upon the foundation of a unique and highly imaginative universe. We can’t wait to see the characters and storyline expand in exciting new directions. And, with Titan at the helm, we know that fans are in for a wild and wonderful ride.”
