I’m not sure if they wince at their early illustrations because they were influenced by Marvel/DC. In interviews, they never hid their influence and admiration for Kirby/Ditko, among many other sources.

You can tell none of the men in the first picture are the “real” Batman because they’re agreeing with her. ;-)
