With less than a month to go before its release on October 23, DC Studios has released the final trailer for the Clayface movie. While not apparently listed as a red band trailer, we have to warn you: it’s even more graphic than the first two trailers, presenting an extended look at the already infamous airplane scene, and more.
As is typical of third trailers for a movie, some of the new footage here may be considered spoiler territory, so feel free to skip ahead. These include a particularly big twist in Dr. Caitlin Corr (Naomi Ackie)’s relationship with Gotham City police detective John Borelli (Max Minghella), and Matt Hagen/Clayface (Tom Rhys Harries) taking on the guise of Eddie Marsan‘s character after apparently killing and absorbing him.
The trailer also gives us what appears to be the first sample of composer Volker Bertelmann (2022’s All Quiet on the Western Front)’s score for the film, which sounds heavily reminiscent of the late Shirley Walker‘s Clayface theme from Batman: The Animated Series. Co-writer Mike Flanagan, who pitched the movie, previously described the show’s take on Hagen as being “formative for me as a kid”.
Directed by James Watkins from a script by Flanagan and Hossein Amini, Clayface has been rated R for the MPAA for “strong bloody violence, gore, language, some nudity and brief drug use.” It will mark the first live-action appearance from the new DCU’s version of the title character and Gotham City, both of which previously debuted on the animated series Creature Commandos (where its take on Batman also cameoed).
In further DC news this week, the upcoming animated film Dynamic Duo has been delayed slightly as a result of the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger, with Deadline reporting the film will now bow on September 22, 2028, instead of June that year. The merger previously resulted in a domino effect for Batman’s next confirmed theatrical release, The Batman Part II, causing it to be delayed until February 18, 2028.
