System of A Down’s John Dolmayan has released the first issue of his new series, Dead Samurai, today through Wake Entertainment. The horror zombie thriller is set in 16th-century Japan and centers on a samurai’s journey to restore his honor. The issue features cover art by Bill Sienkiewicz and interior art by Ryan Benjamin.
The musician is no stranger to the comic world. Dolmayan owns a chain of comic book stores, Torpedo Comics, which stems from a lifetime of love for the industry. Since his childhood, the creator would purchase new issues of his favorite series and then eventually sell off back issues through ads and at conventions, a side gig that would soon be more lucrative than a conventional job. After joining System of A Down in 1997, his passion continued and expanded to searching shops worldwide where he found unique and rare treasures. This led to the opening of his stores.
Dolmayan’s first title work, Ascencia, is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller set 150 years in the future that explores the question: how far will human civilization go to attain immortality?
Now, he’s adding Dead Samurai to the list, and fans can look for variant covers by Jim Lee (President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics), Art Adams (Fantastic Four, Hulk, Ultimate Comics: X, The Rocketeer), Frank Miller (Sin City, Daredevil, The Dark Knight Returns), Frank Cho (Ultimate Spiderman, Avengers vs. X-Men, Hellboy) and more.
