TV Asahi has officially announced that A Witch’s Life in Mongol, the award-winning historical manga by Tomato Soup, will receive a TV anime adaptation from renowned animation studio Science SARU. The anime will be titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia in English.

A special teaser trailer has already been released on YouTube, offering fans their first glimpse at the adaptation: Watch the teaser trailer here.

Currently serialized in Souffle by AKITASHOTEN, the manga has gained critical acclaim for its compelling narrative and richly detailed setting. Yen Press will publish the English version of the manga, with the first volume scheduled to release on May 27, 2025.

Set in 13th-century Mongolia, Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is described as a court drama following Sitara (Fatima), a former slave girl captured by the Mongolian Empire. She forms an unlikely alliance with Töregene, the sixth wife of the Mongolian Emperor, who secretly questions the Empire’s ideals. Together, they challenge the very foundations of imperial rule.

To celebrate the anime’s announcement, author Tomato Soup shared a message with fans:

“Over 10 years ago, long before I began drawing A Witch’s Life in Mongol, I was fascinated by the history of the Mongolian Empire. I often thought, ‘I wish there were an anime like this.’ That thought led me to daydream: If such an anime existed, what kind of characters would appear? What sort of story would unfold?”

Tomato Soup also shared a commemorative illustration featuring Sitara and Töregene to mark the announcement.
