Another cast member has reportedly been chosen for the new Suicide Squad. According to Variety, wrestler-turned-actor John Cena is in talks to join the film alongside returning stars Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney, as well as newcomer Idris Elba. The DC film, directed by former Marvel hotshot James Gunn, doesn’t yet have a release date.
Per Variety, if Cena joins Suicide Squad, it will be his first comic book role, though he previously starred in 2018’s Bumblebee. It’s currently unknown who he will play in Suicide Squad, but rumor has it that he’s up for the role of Peacemaker. Guardians of the Galaxy star and fellow former wrestler David Bautista previously passed on the part, leaving it for Cena to take on.
Gizmodo reports that the new Suicide Squad will be more of a reboot than a sequel to the 2016 film, which means that ostensibly any of the characters from the comics could be included. We’ll have to wait and see how things shape up.
