Some days are just ‘Zilla days. This July, get ready for an electrifying clash as Thor writer Jason Aaron teams up with acclaimed artist Aaron Kuder in Godzilla vs. Thor #1, the grand finale of the upcoming six-issue series where Marvel Comics heroes will face off against the iconic Godzilla across the ages!
The Godzilla vs. The Marvel Universe adventure kicks off next week with Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1, crafted by Ryan North and John Romita Jr. This issue will mark the start of six exciting one-shots that pit the King of the Monsters against beloved Marvel superheroes. These ‘Godzilla vs.’ stories are just the beginning of a groundbreaking partnership between Marvel Comics and Toho International, the studio responsible for bringing Godzilla to life around the globe. Just announced today, the series culminates this July in Aarons and Kuder’s Godzilla vs. Thor #1, on sale July 2, 2025.
“There are almost as many toy kaiju in my office as there are Mjolnirs, which is really saying something, so it made sense for me to bring two of my favorite characters together for one titanic clash,” Jason Aaron shared in comments included in the press release. “Aaron Kuder and I are using the Godzilla from Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, one of the most brutal and powerful versions of the King of the Monsters, so expect a colossal battle that I think will rival some of the most epic, cosmic throwdowns I’ve ever written with the God of Thunder.”
Spanning multiple eras of Marvel and Godzilla, these one-shots promise to deliver action-packed encounters. Watch as Godzilla takes on Marvel’s First Family during the Silver Age, faces off against the Hulk in the character’s influential ’70s run, battles Spider-Man during the character’s memorable ’80s Black suit saga, targets mutants at the height of X-Men popularity in the ’90s, and confronts the powerful New Avengers line-up from the 2000s. And for the ultimate showdown, Godzilla will clash with one of the few heroes capable of standing up to him—The Mighty Thor!
Brace yourself for a battle that promises to shake the very foundations of Asgard, as Thor must defend the realms against Godzilla (and maybe Godzilla’s trans baby from space, eh?). In round six, the deadly Iron Fist assassins known as The Hand have granted Godzilla the fearsome power of The Beast! KRA-KOOM!!! As Thor rises to defend Midgard from Godzilla’s wrath, the question looms—at what cost will he protect the realms?!
