In its January 4th mailing to retailers Marvel made a startling offer: retailers who had already ordered a first or second printing of the second issue of a Legacy launch could freely order a lenticular variant cover.
This was very…interesting because some of these covers were highly incentivized variants which required you to order dozens of copies of the regular issue to get them for your store.
This was a matter of some strife over the fall amongst retailers and led to many very lively discussions.
But now, obviously, with a warehouse full of lenticular covers, Marvel was ready to ship ’em out. Meaning retailers who ordered the variants planning on selling them as rare collectibles….now owned cardboard.
Well, today Marvel has announced:
Please note that Marvel Comics’ Lenticular Legacy Homage Variant offer– initially announced in the January 4 Marvel Mailer — has been cancelled.
No orders have shipped, or will ship, from this promotion.

Kinda says it all.
Just spitballing, but I’m guessing there was a little retailer unhappiness.
Or maybe a ton.

LENTICULAR LEGACY HOMAGE VARIANT OFFERING
If Retailers order or have already ordered either the 1st or 2nd printing of the 2nd issue of any Legacy series they may now reorder the Lenticular Homage Variant to that same series. This offer runs Thursday 1/4/18 to Wednesday, 1/17/18. DCD will complete audits on the qualifier immediately after the offering ends and begin the shipping process on the reordered Lenticular Homage variants immediately after completion, with a scheduled arrival to Retailers with their 1/31/18 on sale product.

That’s easy Dennis! David Gabriel thought it would be a good idea! First to set high margins for lenticular covers to create demand, then to not spend as much on development as DC, and then later to attempt to sell on all the unbought stock.
Remember kids – all Marvel’s current problems stemmed from Axel Alonso and his terrible editors/creators, they have nothing to do with David Gabriel’s sales plans!
