Scottish indie publisher Quindrie Press has announced a new print run of its award-winning transgender anthology When I Was Me: Moments of Gender Euphoria. Preorders have just opened, and shipping is planned for August 2024. The last printing sold out last year (though digital copies remain available).

Edited by Quindrie founder Eve Greenwood and Alex Assan, it compiles over sixty short comics by trans creators from across the globe. It is 96 pages long and appropriate for ages 14+. Warning labels include mentions of misgendering, gender dysphoria, and sex.

When I Was Me

Quindrie to donate to UK non-profits supporting trans youth

Key to Quindrie’s ethos is charitable giving. Each month, it donates a portion of sales from the PDF editions to different charitable causes supporting marginalized communities in Scotland and further afield. For When I Was Me, half of the sales are donated to organizations supporting young trans people across the UK.

The first printing was funded via a 2021 Kickstarter, hitting its £15,000 (~$19,000) goal within six days. By the campaign’s end, it had raised £36,426 (over $45,000) from almost 1500 backers. The anthology was part of the debut opening slate of titles from small press publisher Quindrie Press, founded by Eve Greenwood in 2020. Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Quindrie Press has been nominated for multiple awards from Broken Frontier, ComicScene UK, Creative Edinburgh, and the Eisners. UK small press taste-makers Broken Frontier have awarded titles from the publisher twice – with When I Was Me being named Best One-Shot Anthology winner in 2021.

Book synopsis on the website:

“”Gender euphoria” is the overwhelming feeling of joy a gender-non-conforming person feels when their gender is explored, validated, and celebrated. From being called the right name, to photoshoots with friends, to performing as a different gender in a play; gender euphoria is something that can result from an infinite number of experiences.

When I Was Me is a collection of autobiographical comics about the joyful and euphoric experiences of being transgender, featuring stories from trans people with a wide range of gender identities, ages, and backgrounds! 100% of the team working on When I Was Me fits under the trans umbrella, from pre-press to artists. With 12 interior illustrations and over 60 comics, this book is a wonderful reminder that the trans experience is full of beauty and happiness.”
