The newest trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys series dropped today and features blood, guts, foul language, and a pep talk from Billy Butcher about the Spice Girls. Butcher, played by Karl Urban, explains to his crew how they need to stick together to make it work because separately they are crap, just like the aforementioned British girl group of the ‘90s. Cue “Wannabe.”
Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s controversial comic, the show stars Urban, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Simon Pegg, Chace Crawford, and Elisabeth Shue. Just like its source material, the show demonstrates in violent detail what happens when super-powered people abuse their status, leading to the tagline “Never Meet Your Heroes.”
“I want it to be graphic when it needs to be because that’s what’s best for the story,” showrunner Eric Kripke said. “But I want to tell this character story about these regular, blue-collar humans taking on these entitled, super-powered, one-percenter gods and the relationships amongst them.”
