The Summer of Superman may just have kicked off today, but DC is already looking ahead to what’s to come down the line for the Man of Steel and his extended family. Today the publisher revealed details on July-shipping Superman titles, including the announcement of a new treasury-sized special, Superman Treasury 2025: Hero For All, from the creative team of writer Dan Jurgens and artist Bruno Redondo. Readers who picked up today’s Summer of Superman Special saw a tease for this giant-sized one-shot in the back pages of the issue, but DC’s announcement offers a first look at interior pages, variant covers, and Redondo’s designs for the special.

Here’s how DC describes the giant-sized one-shot:

When a vicious armada of extraterrestrial extremists launches an all-out invasion of Earth, only Superman can stand in the way of total annihilation. But there’s something different about this attack—it’s deadly from both without and within. This is a tale so titanic it must be told at treasury size (10 1/8″ x 13 5/16″) to celebrate the Summer of Superman in style! This must-have one-shot features a main cover by Redondo and will feature images and info from the highly anticipated Superman movie from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, a movie-themed photo variant cover, a variant cover by Dan Jurgens, and a stunning “friends and foes” variant cover by Scott Koblish (New History of the DC Universe).

The inclusion of information about the forthcoming Superman movie, and of a photo variant cover from the film, feels akin to the original Superman: The Movie treasury-sized special that DC released back in 1979 after that film’s release. Redondo’s cover for the issue is also more than a little reminiscent of the iconic final shot of that film, Christopher Reeve‘s Superman flying in space above an illuminated Earth. He just needs to turn to the reader and smile.

In a statement announcing the one-shot, Jurgens and Redondo spoke about bringing the Man of Steel back to the treasury format, and why this is the right time for a larger-than-life Superman story:

“Since Superman is the cornerstone on which our entire industry is built, the term ‘Treasury Sized Edition’ seems to be the perfect vehicle for him,” said Jurgens. “As a kid, the term ‘Treasury Edition’ meant that it was sure to be a special project and one that I just had to have. From the very start, most of those projects focused on Superman. It started with the first SUPERMAN vs. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN team-up and continued with SUPERMAN vs.SHAZAM, SUPERMAN vs. WONDER WOMAN and one of the best comic projects ever, SUPERMAN vs. MUHAMMAD ALI. It was an honor, years later, to be able to add to that lineup of Treasury Editions with SUPERMAN vs. THE FANTASTIC FOUR.”

“There’s been more than 25 years since DC published their last original Treasury Edition—double size of a regular comic book!” added Redondo. “So, having the chance to participate on this is something really special, and I’m really giving my best for it to be special.”

“This current project, SUPERMAN TREASURY 2025: HERO FOR ALL, is our attempt at trying to recapture the spirit of what made those earlier, epic projects something that we remember with such fondness,” continued Jurgens. “We have a grand story that is wide in scope, action and visual drama that also takes a deeper look at Superman’s character and verifies his status as the preeminent hero in the DCU. The larger page size gives the artist every opportunity to push the scope of the story into something that explodes off the page and that is just what Bruno Redondo is working overtime to do. He has a wide range of characters and plenty of big story moments to play with and he’s going all-out to give readers a visual treat that they’re sure to love. In short, the idea of a ‘Treasury Sized Edition’ feels like the perfect way to acknowledge and celebrate this Summer of Superman.”

Along with Superman Treasury 2025: Hero For All, DC released solicitation information for the other Superman family titles scheduled to ship in July 2025. Info for each of those titles as follows:

Action Comics #1088 Takes DC’s Boy of Steel to Smallville High

Action Comics #1088 – On Sale July 9

Writer Mark Waid and artist Skylar Patridge continue the evolution of the Boy of Steel into the protector of Metropolis and Earth’s greatest hero.

A lot can change in a summer, especially for Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superboy. After a disastrous debut in Metropolis, the Kents are worried that the world is not ready for their son and will do whatever it takes to protect him. Little do they know, they’re about to send him to one of the most terrifying places on the planet…Smallville High! Action Comics #1088 features a main cover by Ryan Sook, with variant covers by series artist Patridge, Leonardo Romero, and Karl Kerschl.

The reestablishment of Superboy as part of Superman’s past has been one of the more welcome additions to the DCU of the past several years, and it’s great to see Waid and Patridge getting to explore that fully in one of DC’s flagship titles.

Supergirl #3 Debuts…Satan Girl!?

Supergirl #3 – On Sale July 9

Writer/artist Sophie Campbell gives readers the team-up they never saw coming in this series featuring an all-new Maiden of Might!

Supergirl and the daughter of Lex Luthor, Lena, have come together to battle a common enemy posing as Midvale’s very own Supergirl! Will Lena’s brains and Kara’s brawn be a match for the super-powered supergenius from Kandor? It’s Supergirl versus Supergirl in a fight for the ages! Plus, the debut of Satan Girl?! In addition to interior art, Campbell provides the main and variant covers with Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, Homare, and Joëlle Jones.

There have been multiple characters called Satan Girl in the DCU over the years, and the original, pre-Crisis version was an enemy of the Legion of Super-Heroes and, specifically, Supergirl. Check out 1963’s Adventure Comics #313 for her first appearance (unfortunately it’s not on DCU Infinite, so get ready to hunt). If you don’t know her secret identity already I won’t reveal it here, but it’s truly a gem of a story.

Lex Luthor Meets Krypto in Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #2

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #2 – On Sale July 16

As if he doesn’t have enough to worry about, Krypton’s last dog is about to meet one Superman’s most infamous foes in this issue from writer Ryan North and artist Mike Norton.

Krypto, the last dog of Krypton, has landed on an alien world called Earth after his shuttle test went catastrophically wrong. Krypto wanders into a city, scared and hurt…but this lost dog has found someone to take care of him. A young man, troubled, unkind, but ambitious. Krypto just wants to be loved, but that may not be something this boy, Lex Luthor, is capable of.

Jae Lee provides the main cover, with a variant cover by Rafael De Latorre.

Maybe Lex Luthor just needed a dog? Seriously, how much better would his life have been if he’d had a dog as a kid. And one as good as Krypto? He should be so lucky!

Superman Unlimited #3 Unleashes the Terror of Toyman!

Superman Unlimited #3 – On Sale July 16

Writer Dan Slott and artist Rafael Albuquerque continue their story of Superman facing a world filled with Kryptonite!

When the towering terror of Toyman once again menaces the streets of Metropolis, Superman and Krypto are on hand to save the day—but in this new world of Kryptonite, even Toyman’s murderous mechanisms are supercharged with Superman’s Achilles’ heel! It’s a twisted turn of events as the Man of Steel uncovers a game-changing new use for this deadly substance, and it has the capacity to…save the world? All this, plus some interesting changes to the Daily Planet staff and the scourge of Intergang flooding the streets of Metropolis! Series artist Albuquerque provides the main cover and a Gotham City Sirens-themed variant cover, with additional variants from Leinil Francis Yu, Robin “Zombie” Higginbottom, Tony S. Daniel, Ryan Benjamin, and Christian Ward.

Toyman has had a number of iterations over the years. It looks like Slott and Albuquerque are going with ‘guy in a giant mech’ this time, which could mean it’s the Hiro Okamura version of the character that was introduced in the early ’00s.

The Darkseid Legion Attacks in Superman #28

Superman #28 – On Sale July 23

Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora put the Darkseid Legion front and center in this can’t-miss issue! Superman #28 through #30 tells a definitive story… leading toward the next big DCU event!

Since the start of DC All In, Darkseid’s Legion has lurked in the shadows of the DC Universe. And now they finally attack Superman! This critical issue reveals the Legion’s deadly mission and kicks off the next phase of DC All In, setting up a massive event for Superman and the DC Universe!

Superman #28 features a main cover and spot foil variant cover by series artist Mora, with additional variants by Nathan Szerdy, Tula Lotay, Guillem March, and Salvador Larroca.

This is the big one, and a direct follow-up from today’s Summer of Superman Special. The prominence of the Legion is exciting given their somewhat rocky success rate of late. Hopefully they’ll end up in a good position for another shot at a series once all is said and done, as the world of the 31st Century is a rich one worth exploring (between this and Satan Girl can you tell I’ve been on a Legion kick lately).

Look for all of these books and more from the Summer of Superman when they arrive in stores and digitally in July 2025. And don’t forget to head to your local comic shop this Friday to celebrate DC’s annual Superman Day with exclusive reprints and other festivities. Wear your finest cape!
