DC Comics Month-to-Month Sales: December 2017 – No Tears for Batman

10
The biggest surprise in the December Diamond-NA comics chart is not that DC has five of the top six comics (and six of the top ten), or that DC & Marvel are in a virtual tie for market share (DC edges out Marvel for dollar share, while Marvel edges out DC for unit share), or even that DC is maintaining strong sales of both Dark Nights Metal & Doomsday Clock.

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: August 2017 – Heavy Metal

21
I know things look kind of bad, especially the one year comparisons to August 2016. But recall that that month had DC's best first-month sales of the modern Diamond era (the data I have goes back to March 2003). August 2017 was really just back to typical overall sales figures for DC.

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: May 2017 – One Year Later

It was one year previous, May 2016, when the DCU Rebirth Special dropped, and the following month when Rebirth started in full. Which would make this a good time to take stock and see what sorts of effects Rebirth has had on DCU sales.

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: April 2017 – Button, Button, Who’s Got “The Button”?

18
Greetings, sales charts fans! It's time once again to look at DC's sales figures. Two major happenings in April for DC: "The Button" crossover between Batman and The Flash that ties into the Rebirth über-plot; and the price increase of the DC Rebirth monthly titles from $2.99 to $3.99. "The Button" obviously had a huge impact on sales for the two titles affected, and continues into next month as well (more on this the entires for the affected titles below).

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: February 2017 – Saga of the Super Sons

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: January 2016 – The Adjustment Bureau

21

Greetings, sales charts fans! It's time once again to look at DC's sales figures.

Things were bad for DC in January. How bad? With records going back to March 2003, DC had its second worst average sales on record of 21,845, just barely beating the March 2009 low point of 21,792. The Vertigo line had its lowest average sales on record by far: 6,832, beating the previous average low of 7,055 in March 2015. And the median sales for both lines was even lower: 24,624 & 5,802 respectively.

DC shipped twenty fewer comics in January as compared to December (74 versus 94). Two titles not shipping in January were two of DC's top sellers, Dark Knight III and Justice League. They moved a total estimated 1,616,524 comic units in January, compared to 2,640,519 in December, a difference of over a million units!

DC Comics Month-to Month Sales: October 2015 – Crawling Up Into the Continuity Hole

20

When the early Diamond info came out this month the Friday before the Top 300 charts were released (as they generally do every month), there was much consternation, as Marvel dominated both the top ten and also nearly doubled DC in market share. The instant conclusion that was jumped to in many quarters was that Marvel crushed DC in October. DC must have had a horrible month, right?

Eh, not so much.

Total sales for DC were actually up over September by more than 100K. Average sales per title were down slightly, just 0.5%. Average sales for Vertigo were down because last month was a Sandman month, but the median sales per title for Vertigo were up by about 2.5K, due to the Vertigo relaunch.
