Things to do: Comic New York: A Symposium
If you were around comics in New York in 2008, you know that that was the Year of the Symposium, with Post Bang, SPLAT, and probably something else that wasn't named after a sound effect. Since that epic year, when comics were discussed and analyzed by panels of every type, there have been a few scattered symposia, but nothing that big. Until the announcement of Comic New York: A Symposium, to be held Saturday and Sunday March 24-25 at Columbia University.

If you happen to be near DeKalb, IL next week, you may enjoy this newPaul Karasik-curated comics art exhibition called Graphic Novel Realism: Backstage at the Comics which runs from Tuesday, March 20, through Friday, May 25, in the Altgeld Galleries at Northern Illinois Unversity.

SPX '12 adds Hernandez Brothers; exhibit space sells out
This year's SPX Expo has just announced the addition of Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez to this year's show, joining previously announced Daniel Clowes and Chris Ware that means these four pillars of cartooning will be united on the East Coast for the first time since...well, maybe ever. YIKES!
Meet the vets and Stan Lee at the March NY Comic Book Marketplace
The next Mike Carbo's New York Comic Book Marketplace, which is sometimes called the Big Apple Con but isn't any more, will be held March 31 at the usual place (Penn Pavilion), and in addition to Stan Lee, you can meet a variety of old-time comics vets:
Tonight to do, NYC: Tamaki, Hanawalt, Davis at Society of Illustrators
Tonight, Jillian Tamaki, Lisa Hanawalt, and Eleanor Davis will be showing and discussing their work. Since their work is mostly amazing, that should be interesting. Davis is making a rare appeance in NYC—that's her cover for the Study Group anthology above.

Artist Mike Cavallaro writes to alert us to an event tonight, the book launch for UNDER THE MOONS OF MARS, a new anthology of short stories inspired by the Edgar Rice Burroughs mythos by writers including Joe R. Lansdale, Jonathan Maberry, Peter S. Beagle, Robin Wasserman, Garth Nix, and more, as well as a foreward by Tamora Pierce and introduction and header notes by John Joseph Adams. Oh, and illustrations by Cavallaro, Charles Vess, Michael W. Kaluta, Molly Crabapple, and more.
