When do you let go of that childhood dream? Jim Mroczkowski at iFanboy looks at the fannish habit of holding on to something you hate in hopes of something improving vis a vis the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon on Disney XD, of which he writes:

Marvel and ESPN team for Tim Tebow cartoon

0
While they don't equate him with a miracle, Disney stablemates ESPN and Marvel have teamed up for a brief cartoon painting Tebow as a superhero. The segment is barely a minute long, and really only features some stills drawn in the mighty Marvel style, so "minimum comics content." And no Tebowing.

Joe Quesada on modern comics marketing

0
A new Cup O' Joe with Marvel's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada reveals many things, including more about the origin of MIles Morales, and the fact that Quesada has been commissioned by the actual President of the United States for a piece of art. But it also contains an explanation of what has vexed many of late: Marvel's spoilerific PR in major media. For instance the story of the new dark-skinned Spider-Man broke on Tuesday inUSA Today, spoiling the story with its ubiquity before the issue in question came out. However, says Quesada, there really isn't any other way to do it:

Marvel announces New Stores initiative

0
With DC's New 52 changing the face of comics, and getting mostly positive reviews from retailers, it was time for Marvel to announce their OWN new initiative which is aimed at people who want to open new stores. Marvel will provide deep discounts and free trade paperbacks and access to Marvel's Retailer Resource Center. The promotion also applies to existing accounts who want to open a new store. It almost goes without saying that in a challenged retailing environment, opening new stores is of vital importance.

Marvel attempts to convert THOR viewers to comics readers — results are mixed

0
Do successful comic book movies create new comics readers? As the "Watchmen Principle" demonstrates, when a movie is based on a finite graphic novel or series, the answer is yes. When it is based on an ongoing 50 year saga the results are not so clear. CBR's Greg Hatcher chanced upon a display of bagged comics at his CostCo which showed that Marvel had put together a product that seemed to be aimed at people who liked THOR and wanted to know where to go next: A photo-cover of hunky Chris Hemsworth as Thor graced the front of the package and an assortment of alluring titles lurked beneath.

Cool images of Thor are all around us!

Thor is all around, no need to fake it.

Marvel releases "Not a dry eye in the house" variant for DEATH OF SPIDER-MAN

0
Normally we don't run more than one Marvel PR in a day -- and they send out about 38 each and every day -- but when we saw that Joe Quesada had done a variant billed as the "No dry eye in the house" variant for The Death of Spider-Man storyline just now wrapping up in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN...well...we had to share. Because we like everyone to blubber in the afternoon. It's good for you.
