Dresden Codak is fastest funded comics project yet

Popular webcomics getting immense Kickstarters is a real dog bites man story, but here it is: Aaron Diaz has a print project for his fantasy webcomics Dresden Codak up and after a day or so it has $189,773 with 27 days to go. The initial goal was a mere $30,000. It's already the 8th biggest comics Kickstarter of all times, and who knows how big it will get.

Monkeybrain Comics coming to print from IDW and Image

In a move that is the opposite of a shock, some of the titles from the digital-first Monkeybrain imprint are coming to print at IDW, starting in June. The line will kick off with founder Chris Roberson's EDISON REX and continuing with AMELIA COLE AND THE UNKNOWN WORLD, RED LIGHT PROPERTIES and more.

Tom Tomorrow wins Herblock prize

Tom Tomorrow, creator of This Modern World, is this year's Herblock Prize winner. Established in 2004, and nemed for famed editorial cartoonist Herblock, the prize is given for distinguished examples of editorial cartooning that exemplify the courageous standard set by Herblock and is judged by a panel of outside experts. The finalist this year was Jack Ohman, who left his post at The Oregonian last year.

Columbia University acquires the Elfquest archives

As Dave Sim noted the other day, Wendy and Richard Pini, creators of Elfquest, the pioneering indie comics fantasy, held on to all of their artwork. And now they are bequeathing it to Columbia University's archives. The PR below explains all you need to know, but we should note that Columbia's tireless librarian and comics-scholar Karen Green has been busy indeed.
