Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross has become a landmark series for DC Comics, one of their most acclaimed and evergreen titles, and has captured the minds of superhero fans for decades. The Beat is pleased to announce that The Legend of Kingdom Come, a documentary film about the making of the legendary comics series, has set its 2025 premiere dates.

The film will make its American premiere at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago on Saturday, May 10, 2025, followed by an international premiere at The Lake Como Comic Art Festival in Italy on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The film is also expected to be screened at conventions and festivals worldwide throughout the year.

Director Remsy Atassi states:

“Sal and I had a great time making this film and we are thrilled to celebrate the release and share our work with live audiences throughout the year.” 

To celebrate the occasion, the Chicago event will feature special appearances from Atassi and producer Sal Abbinanti, who will be present to introduce the film, followed by a Q&A. Blu-Rays and special items will be available for purchase while supplies last.

The Musix Box Theatre will be hosting their screening at 7:00 pm, on May 10th, 2025. Tickets will be available on their website. The international event will be held at this year’s Lake Como Comic Art Festival in Cernobbio, Italy, on May 17th 2025. For more information, visit their website

The documentary film explores how the artistic vision of Alex Ross reshaped comic art and redefined superheroes across generations. The film features commentary from the creative team of Mark Waid and Alex Ross, along with original footage and a wide range of interviews with comic industry luminaries, including Todd McFarlane, Julie and Shawna Benson, Paul Dini, and more. The Legend of Kingdom Come not only celebrates the groundbreaking work of Ross but also traces the lineage of comic art and storytelling that has shaped modern pop culture and has delighted audiences worldwide.

The documentary launched as a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign last year. Backers received early access to watch the documentary via a link as well as access to a Blu-ray edition. Now, the documentary will appear on large screens over the coming months.

The film is directed and edited by Attasi, a Chicago-based filmmaker. His feature film directorial debut, Bad Animal (2022), was distributed via Emulsion Lab and garnered critical acclaim, including awards at festivals such as FAFF and the Tucson Film & Music Festival. Attasi’s previous work includes award-winning short films like One Way Out (2018) and The Liar (2013). Additionally, he is well known for his work in music videos and photography, featuring in renowned publications such as Rolling Stone, Forbes, Pitchfork, and Vice. 

The film is produced by Abbinanti, a seasoned comic book producer and artist. As the longtime agent and business manager for Ross, Abbinanti has been instrumental in the success of numerous acclaimed projects. His deep understanding of both the artistic and business sides of comics has made him a respected figure in the field. He also created the indie comic series Atomika: God is Red, showcasing his distinctive artistic style and storytelling. His work often explores complex themes and presents visually striking narratives.
