The Cartoonist Cooperative has announced the Minicomic Awards 2025 nominees for the categories of fiction, nonfiction, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, and humor.

The Minicomic Awards 2025 judges are Barbara Benas, Ashanti Fortson, Gigi Murakami, Cam Marshall, Evan Dahm, Arpad Okay, and Madeline McGrane. The awards ceremony will be live-streamed on May 1, 2025, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm EDT and hosted by Star Prichard.

“The Minicomic Awards is an annual showcase founded by cartoonists Leslie Hung andSloane Leong to spotlight unique, challenging, and under-recognized short-form comics. For most cartoonists, minicomics are the form in which they begin to develop their storytelling skills and also the place they return to experiment and push their techniques, voices, and the medium further. Their accessibility also means we get a bounty of incredibly unique work across a wide range of genres and from a variety of marginalized perspectives.

The Cartoonist Cooperative is excited to continue this yearly tradition! We’ve increase the amount of categories this year by three as the organization has grown, we’re now able to help spread the awards even further.”

The award ceremony is part of the Nib & Ink Festival, an online-only comic event for the entire month of May.

“The Nib & Ink Festival ( or NIF ) is a brand new online-only comics festival taking place from May 1st to 31st of 2025. NIF will have a custom store for exhibitors to sell digital comics, print-at-home zines, free curated webcomic samplers, streamed panels every weekend throughout the month, and more! Our goal is to create an unique space highlighting independent comics from all areas of our world-wide industry, where creators and fans alike can find new comics to read, learn more about the medium they love, and connect with like-minded individuals.”
